    Abstract:

    The performance of Field labour is critical to the success of any construction project. Poor quality of construction Personnel has a major influence on the overall performance and efficiency of construction projects. In general, contractors rely heavily on medium to high levels of construction Personnel such as Site Engineers, Site Managers and Project Managers to successfully complete a construction project. The role of low levels of construction Personnel, known as Field Personnel, is normally overlooked. This paper argues that well-trained Field Personnel have an important role in minimising the amount of waste activities during the construction process leading to reducing company’s productivity. Hence, the paper attempts to explore the significant role of Field Personnel in completing construction projects productively. Based on a comprehensive data collection through a survey research and case studies targeted at small to medium construction companies in Indonesia, this paper states that a significant achievement in minimising the amount of waste and increasing company’s productivity has been attained by contracting companies that have conducted training for their Field Personnel. Evidence of the increase of the company’s productivity is expressed by measuring the value of PPC of the projects Key Words:

    The paper is intended to familiarize RPMs, OSCs, and Field Personnel with the sources of error inherent to ground-water sampling, and the relative impact of these errors on sample representativeness. Elements of typical sampling protocol will be discussed in relation to how these sources of error can be identified and minimized. Some of the elements of sampling protocol to be addressed include monitoring well drilling, design, construction, and purging, sample collection methods and devices, sample filtration, equipment decontamination, sample transport and storage, and analytical methods.

    The Regional Superfund Ground Water Forum is a group of ground-water scientists representing the U.S. EPA's Regional Superfund Offices that was organized to exchange up-to-date information related to ground-water remediation at Superfund sites. The paper is intended to familiarize RPMs, OSCs, and Field Personnel with the sources of error inherent to ground-water sampling, and the relative impact of these errors on sample representativeness. Elements of typical sampling protocol will be discussed in relation to how these sources of error can be identified and minimized.

  • Development of a waste minimization and pollution prevention training program for the upstream oil and gas industry

    Abstract:

    The environmental, health, and safety professionals, operating staff, and management of both major and independent producers have long recognized the importance of continued education on environmental issues that impact the oil and gas producing industry. However, the information and knowledge concerning environmental practices acquired by the corporate staff is not always successfully or timely transferred to the Field Personnel. The Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER) of the US Environmental Protection Agency recognized the role that Field Personnel have on the producing oil and gas industry`s waste generation and disposal performance. To broaden the environmental awareness and knowledge of these Field Personnel, OSWER funded a grant in October 1993 to the National Environmental Training Association for the development of an E and P Field Personnel Pollution Prevention Training Program. This program introduces the Field E and P employee to fundamental pollution prevention and waste minimization concepts such as: the EPA waste management hierarchy -- Source Reduction, Recycling, Treatment, and Disposal; identification and categorization of the wastes that they generate; recognition of pollution prevention and waste minimization opportunities; and proper handling techniques.

    The National Environmental Training Association (NETA) with a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a comprehensive pollution prevention training program for oil and gas exploration and production Field Personnel. The program, developed by an interdisciplinary committee of industry, industry association, regulatory agencies, and environmental groups, provides the knowledge, tools, and instructional techniques to transfer a pollution prevention mind-set and cost-effective methodologies to Field Personnel.
