Cells harvested at stationary phase of growth depicted maximum accumulation i.e. 8.6% (w/w) of dry cells as compared to lag (4.1%) or logarithmic (6.1%) phases of cultures. In contrast to alkaline pH, acidic pH, continuous illumination and cells grown in presence of combined nitrogen sources, such as NH 4 Cl and KNO 3 , were found to affect PHB accumulation negatively. However, P-deficiency and addition of exogenous carbon sources (acetate, glucose, maltose, fructose and ethanol) were found stimulatory for PHB accumulation. In this report PHB accumulation in N. muscorum was boosted up to 35% (w/w) of dry cells when cells supplemented with 0.2% acetate were subjected to dark incubation for 7 days. Further studies are needed at metabolic Engineering level or to apply Genetic Engineering Techniques to improve the expression level of PHB photoproduction in cyanobacteria.

Follitropin alpha can be used for controlled ovarian hyperstimulation in assisted reproduction, ovulation induction for WHO group I and II anovulatory infertility and in men with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism (HH) or idiopathic oligo-asthenospermia. Current evidence suggests superiority of urinary human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) over follitropin alpha in controlled ovarian hyperstimulation for IVF in terms of live birth rate per couple. Addition of lutropin to follitropin alpha in an unselected IVF population does not appear to confer any benefit; however, it may have a role in ovulation induction in women with hypothalamic hypogonadism. Urinary HMG preparations (especially currently available highly purified preparations) are more cost effective than rFSH in terms of cost per ongoing pregnancy. However, women using rFSH injection pen devices have higher levels of satisfaction as compared to those using urinary HMG by means of conventional syringes.

This was designed with a well-defined molecular architecture comprising different functional domains. The structural base is a elastin-derived repeating unit, which confers an adequate elastic characteristic. Some of these elastin domains have been modified to contain lysine; this amino acid can be used for crosslinking purposes. The polymer also contain periodically spaced fibronectin CS5 domains enclosing the well-known cell attachment sequence REDV. Finally, the polymer has target sequences for proteolitic action. These sequences are those found in the natural elastin and are introduced to help in the bioabsorption of the polymer. In addition, these proteolitic sequences were chosen in a way that, after proteolitic action, the released fragments will be bioactive. These fragments are expected to promote cell proliferation activity, angiogenesis and other bioactivities of interest for tissue growing, repairing and healing. After purification, the resulting polymers proved to be of high purity and correct sequence. Glutaraldehyde has shown to be a cross-linking agent for this polymer, yielding insoluble hydrogel matrices. This work is framed in a long term project aimed to exploit the power of Genetic Engineering for the design and bioproduction of complex ECM analogues showing the rich complexity and multi (bio)functionality of the natural matrix.
