urinary tract involvement in eec syndrome a clinical study in 25 brazilian patients
American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1992Co-Authors: Aguinaldo C Nardi, Luis Alberto Magna, E S O Rodini, Ubirajara Ferreira, Nelson Rodrigues Netto, Antonio RichiericostaAbstract:We have evaluated 25 patients (14 isolated and 11 familial cases) with the EEC syndrome for Genitourinary (GU) tract anomalies through intravenous pyelogram (IVP), voiding urethrocystography, and sonographic examination. Fifty-two percent of the patients (7 isolated and 6 familial cases) had involvement of the urinary tract, with no significant difference between isolated and familial cases. The present data seem to reflect the best estimate of the prevalence of Genitourinary anomalies in patients with the EEC syndrome. © 1992 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

eau guidelines for the management of Genitourinary tuberculosis
European Urology, 2005Co-Authors: Mete Cek, Severin Lenk, Kurt G Naber, Michael C Bishop, Truls Bjerklund E Johansen, Henry Botto, Magnus Grabe, Bernard Lobel, Juan Palou Redorta, Peter TenkeAbstract:Nearly one third of the world's population is estimated to be infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Moreover, tuberculosis is the most common opportunistic infection in AIDS patients. Genitourinary tuberculosis is not very common but it is considered as a severe form of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis The diagnosis of Genitourinary tuberculosis is made based on culture studies by isolation of the causative organism; however, biopsy material on conventional solid media may occasionally be required. Drug treatment is the first line therapy in Genitourinary tuberculosis. Treatment regimens of 6 months are effective in most of the patients. Although chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment, surgery in the form of ablation or reconstruction may be unavoidable. Both radical and reconstructive surgery should be carried out in the first 2 months of intensive chemotherapy.

clinical management of foreign bodies of the Genitourinary tract
The Journal of Urology, 2000Co-Authors: Arndt Van Ophoven, Jean B De KernionAbstract:Purpose: The variety of foreign bodies inserted into or externally attached to the Genitourinary tract defies imagination and includes all types of objects. The frequency of such cases renders these objects an important addition to the diseases of the urinary organs.Materials and Methods: We performed a computerized MEDLINE search followed by a manual bibliographic review of cross-references. These reports were analyzed and the important findings summarized. Results: Our review encompassed approximately 800 single case reports on foreign bodies in the English world literature published between 1755 and 1999. We structured the range of introduced objects, by referring to origin and material as well as the Genitourinary organs involved. Furthermore, we noted symptomatology and diagnoses, including psychological involvement, as well as possible treatment options. Conclusions: The most common motive associated with foreign bodies of the Genitourinary tract is sexual or erotic in nature. The most suitable method...

EAU guidelines on urological trauma.
European urology, 2005Co-Authors: Thomas H. Lynch, Luis Martínez-piñeiro, Eugen Plas, Efraim Serafetinides, Levent Türkeri, Richard A. Santucci, Markus HohenfellnerAbstract:Abstract Purpose: To determine the optimal evaluation and management of Genitourinary (renal, ureteral, bladder, urethral and genital) injuries by review of the world's literature on the subject. Methods: A consensus committee convened by the Health Care Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU) to summarize the literature concerning the diagnosis and treatment of Genitourinary trauma. Results: Findings of 350 citations are reviewed. Conclusions: The Genitourinary trauma literature still relies heavily on expert opinion and single-institution retrospective series. Future prospective trials of the most significant issues, when possible, might improve the quality of evidence that dictates practitioner behavior. This paper represents a 5000 word summary of the full 35,000 word report. Full text of this review is available online at http://www.europeanurology.com.
