  • modified model of radiographer scheduling problem for sequential optimization
Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, 2018
    Co-Authors: Toshiyuki Miyamoto, K. Hidaka
    Abstract:

Radiographers/radiology technicians, who operate medical image diagnostic apparatuses used for examination and treatment of patients in hospitals, are limited human resources. Appropriately allocating radiographers Working on a variety of medical image diagnostic apparatuses considering their skills lead to providing high-quality services to patients and providing a Good Working Environment to staff. On the other hand, staff training is also an important issue from the long-term perspective of hospital administration. We construct a new integer programming model of radiographer scheduling for sequential optimization; we conduct a case study of the radiographer scheduling problem using a realistic instance for one month. The proposed sequential optimization is useful in terms of computation time.

  • Experiences of organizational and social work Environment among dental hygienists Working in the private dental sector : A quantitative survey for dental hygienists in a region in southern Sweden
Hälsohögskolan Jönköping University HHJ. Centrum för oral hälsa, 2020
    Co-Authors: Ivarsson Clara, Flink Alma
    Abstract:

Maintaining a Good Working Environment can improve the quality of performed work, become more sustainable and increase patient safety. Aim: To investigate how dental hygienists in private dental sector experience their organizational and social work Environment. Method: A cross-sectional study with questionnaire as measuring instrument was performed. The sample consisted of dental hygienists in private dental sector in Sweden. Data were processed in SPSS through Spearman’s Rho correlation analysis. Results: 28 dental hygienists responded to the questionnaire and reported positive experiences regarding organizational and social work Environment [OSA] in general. A higher number of employed dental hygienists reported more positive experiences of work development ( = 0,404, p = 0,033) and required to work beyond Working hours ( =–0,477, p = 0,010). More professional years as dental hygienist increased positive experiences of meaningful work ( = 0,404, p = 0,033). Conclusion: In addition to the identified salutogenic factors in the results, protentional for development regarding OSA was found in the dimension reorganization. To gain understanding and reasons for experienced OSA, research via qualitative approach would be valuable to identify salutogenic factors that may contribute to improved OSA

  • To work as an intensive care nurse in the intensive care unit, during ongoing pandemic caused by the coronavirus.
    2020
    Co-Authors: Mohlin Kenneth
    Abstract:

Background: At the end of 2019, a pandemic caused by the coronavirus Covid-19 developed across much of the world that may cause serious respiratory diseases in humans. In the social debates, including the state media, the progress of the virus has received major headlines. Discussions have been about lack of hygiene knowledge, protective equipment, intensive care units and intensive care nurses. Many of the most serious infected patients have ended up in intensive care with severe compilations such as respiratory problems. Aim: How do the intensive care nurses work to stop the spread of the corona infection along with safe and Good nursing care and what measures should be taken to achieve these results? Method: A systematic literature study based on qualitative articles through advanced search in PubMed and Cinahl databases. The material has been thoroughly processed and analyzed thematically. Results: The result based on twelve articles and presented under two themes: Individual level and Organization level. Individual level was considered the responsibility of the intensive care nurse to prevent the spread of infection through adequate hygiene measures, to use personal protective equipment and to keep distances where possible between people. These measures reduced and stopped the spread of infection in the intensive care units. Organization level is the management's responsibility to provide the intensive care nurse with conditions for preventing the spread of infection through resources, education and a Good Working Environment. Because of these responses the intensive care nurse managed to reduce or stop infections to spread satisfactorily. Conclusion: In order to stop the spread of infection and to provide safe care in the intensive care units, it is vital that the intensive care nurses have Good knowledge of Working aseptically, use adequate protective equipment and keep distance to other people where possible. It is also important that there are resources such as enough colleagues to help one another, for example, to take turns wearing warm protective equipment. In order for the intensive care nurse to maintain her/his knowledge in infection control, training needs continuously. Last, but not least, a Good Working Environment is needed where you can discuss about problems that have occurred, such as a lack of safety during work with dangerous contamination

  • Causes and management of stress at work.
    Occupational and environmental medicine, 2002
    Co-Authors: Susan Michie
    Abstract:

Stress has been defined in different ways over the years. Originally, it was conceived of as pressure from the Environment, then as strain within the person. The generally accepted definition today is one of interaction between the situation and the individual. It is the psychological and physical state that results when the resources of the individual are not sufficient to cope with the demands and pressures of the situation. Thus, stress is more likely in some situations than others and in some individuals than others. Stress can undermine the achievement of goals, both for individuals and for organisations (box 1). View this table: Box 1: The problem of stress Signs of stress can be seen in people's behaviour, especially in changes in behaviour. Acute responses to stress may be in the areas of feelings (for example, anxiety, depression, irritability, fatigue), behaviour (for example, being withdrawn, aggressive, tearful, unmotivated), thinking (for example, difficulties of concentration and problem solving) or physical symptoms (for example, palpitations, nausea, headaches). If stress persists, there are changes in neuroendocrine, cardiovascular, autonomic and immunological functioning, leading to mental and physical ill health (for example anxiety, depression, heart disease) (box 2, fig 1).1 View this table: Box 2 : Signs of stress Figure 1 A model of stress at work.1 Situations that are likely to cause stress are those that are unpredictable or uncontrollable, uncertain, ambiguous or unfamiliar, or involving conflict, loss or performance expectations. Stress may be caused by time limited events, such as the pressures of examinations or work deadlines, or by ongoing situations, such as family demands, job insecurity, or long commuting journeys. Resources that help meet the pressures and demands faced at work include personal characteristics such as coping skills (for example, problem solving, assertiveness, time management) and the work situation such as a Good Working Environment and social support. These resources can be …
