    Abstract:

    The experiment results show that there is better mechanical properties which can meet quality standard of eligible Grade Product when the floor board was made from fiber/PP composite among three kinds of fiber/plastic composites, the properties will meet quality standard of excellent Grade Product when the coupling agent was added. For the rest of two kinds of fiber/plastic composites, the properties can exceed the quality standard of eligible Grade Product when the coupling agent was added. The interfacial status was improved , glass transition temperature was increased and composites mechanical properties were enhanced when the coupling agents was presented.

    Abstract:

    Three kinds of composites (fiber/Polypropylene, fiber/Polyethelene, and fiber/Polystyrene) were made by using hot pressing process for substrate of floorboard and the properties of each kind of composites were tested. MORs of PP/wood fiber, PS/fiber, and PE/fiber composites with coupling agent added were raised by 18.4%, 37.1%, and 42%, respectively, compared to those without coupling agent. Among the three kinds of fiber/plastic composites, fiber/PP composite has best mechanical properties, and it can meet quality standard of eligible Grade Product and come up to the excellent Grade Products of China when the coupling agent is added. The performance of composite made of PE/fiber or PS/fiber can exceed qualified Product Grade only with coupling agent added.

  • Product substitution and dual sourcing under random supply failures

    Abstract:

    Abstract Product substitution can mitigate supply chain disruptions. However, it may not be very effective without multiple sourcing. In this paper, we consider a supply chain with two downward substitutable Products. The Products can be ordered from an unreliable supplier or a reliable but more expensive supplier. It is found that in an optimal sourcing policy the higher-Grade Product should be preferred over the lower-Grade Product. A sufficient condition is given for an optimal policy where only the higher-Grade Product is dual-sourced. The effect of substitution is contrasted with the non-substitution case. Numerical study shows the impact of demand variability and correlation on the effect of Product substitution and the corresponding optimal sourcing policy.

  • Joint pricing and procurement of substitutable Products with random demands – A technical note

    Abstract Single-period joint pricing and procurement of substitutable Products entails one time procurement and pricing decisions for substitutable Products that face price dependent stochastic demands. Recently, Karakul and Chan [Karakul, M., Chan, L., 2008. Analytical and managerial implications of integrating Product substitutability in the joint pricing and procurement problem. European Journal of Operational Research 190, 179–204] considered this problem for two one-way substitutable Products. Authors model the demands for each Product in the well known additive form, where the mean demands are linear functions of the price of the high Grade new Product plus an additive stochastic noise term. By assuming that the noise term for the low Grade existing Product follows a general discrete distribution and the noise term for the high Grade Product follows a general continuous distribution, authors are able to show the unimodality of the expected profit function with respect to the procurement quantities and the price of the new Product. In this paper, we extend this result to the case where the noise term in the demand of the low Grade Product follows a general continuous distribution as well.
