  • Généralisation d’un théorème de Greenberg
    Archiv der Mathematik, 2018
    Co-Authors: Jean-françois Jaulent
    Abstract:

We formulate a general conjecture on the characteristic polynomials of S-decomposed T-ramified Iwasawa modules over the cyclotomic $$\mathbb {Z}_\ell $$ -extension of a number field. We show that this conjecture is equivalent to the conjunctions of the classical conjectures of Leopoldt and of Gross-Kuz’min. We so extend a result of semi-simplicity of Greenberg and, by the way, an isomorphism of Kuz’min.

  • Généralisation d'un théorème de Greenberg
    Archiv der Mathematik, 2018
    Co-Authors: Jean-françois Jaulent
    Abstract:

  • Note sur la conjecture de Greenberg
Journal of the Ramanujan Mathematical Society, 2018
    Co-Authors: Jean-françois Jaulent
    Abstract:

  • Note on Greenberg conjecture
    arXiv: Number Theory, 2016
    Co-Authors: Jean-françois Jaulent
    Abstract:

We use logarithmic {\ell}-class groups to take a new view on Greenberg's conjecture about Iwasawa {\ell}-invariants of a totally real number field K. By the way we recall and complete some classical results. Under Leopoldt's conjecture, we prove that Greenberg's conjecture holds if and only if the logarithmic classes of K principalize in the cyclotomic Z{\ell}-extensions of K. As an illustration of our approach, in the special case where the prime {\ell} splits completely in K, we prove that the sufficient condition introduced by Gras just asserts the triviality of the logarithmic class group of K.Last, in the abelian case, we provide an explicit description of the circular class groups in connexion with the so-called weak conjecture.

  • Biography of E. P. Greenberg.
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2004
    Co-Authors: Tinsley H. Davis
    Abstract:

For the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, communication is a powerful tool. Twenty years ago, the idea that bacteria communicate with each other was not widely accepted. Today, bacterial communication is on the forefront of understanding devastating infections, such as those that plague cystic fibrosis patients or burn victims. E. Peter Greenberg, elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2004, first introduced the term “quorum sensing” in 1994 to describe the regulation of bacterial gene expression by means of population sensing (1). Today, quorum sensing is proving more and more complicated. In his Inaugural Article on page 15833 in this issue of PNAS (2), Greenberg presents new research that questions the traditional paradigms of promoter recognition by the transcription factors involved in quorum sensing.

  • The Bers–Greenberg Theorem and the Maskit Embedding for Teichmüller Spaces
Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 1997
    Co-Authors: Pablo Arés Gastesi
    Abstract:

The Bers–Greenberg theorem tells us that the Teichmuller space of a Riemann surface with branch points (orbifold) depends only on the genus and the number of special points, and not on the particular ramification values. On the other hand, the Maskit embedding provides a mapping from the Teichmuller space of an orbifold, into the product of one-dimensional Teichmuller spaces. In this paper we prove that there is a set of isomorphisms between one-dimensional Teichmuller spaces that, when restricted to the image of the Teichmuller space of an orbifold under the Maskit embedding, provides the Bers–Greenberg isomorphism.

  • Joseph H. Greenberg
Journal of African Languages and Linguistics, 2001
    Co-Authors: Paul Newman

  • An Interview With Joseph Greenberg
    Current Anthropology, 1991
    Co-Authors: Paul Newman
    Abstract:

Introduction [PN]: Joseph H. Greenberg was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 28, I9I5. He took his bachelor's degree at Columbia University in -1936 and his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in I940. After some I4 years' teaching at Columbia, he moved in i962 to Stanford University, where he has been professor of linguistics and anthropology ever since. Greenberg has been an extremely prolific scholar and has published groundbreaking works in the areas of language classification, typology, and universals, among others. Two volumes of his collected papers (Greenberg 197Ia, iggo) have been issued, the latter containing a full list of his writings, and two Festschriften have been published in his honor (Juilland I977, Croft, Denning, and Kemmer I990). His own thoughts about his career as a linguistic anthropologist are found in Greenberg (I986). The following interview was conducted in July I989 with a brief continuation in February I99I.

  • sexual functioning in women reporting a history of child sexual abuse review of the empirical literature and clinical implications
Annual Review of Sex Research, 2012
    Co-Authors: Leah M Leonard, Victoria M Follette
    Abstract:

Abstract Researchers have frequently linked childhood sexual abuse (CSA) with some form of adult sexual disturbance. Unfortunately, research on how to treat sexual dysfunctions in women with a history of childhood sexual abuse has lagged behind. In this article, we review the literature concerning childhood sexual abuse and sexual dysfunction. In addition, we look at two theories that help explain the relationship between CSA and sexual dysfunction. Both of these theories highlight the importance of emotional experience. The contextual behavioral model described by Polusny and Follette (1995) is derived from the work of Hayes and colleagues (Hayes, Strosahl, & Wilson, 1999) and focuses on the role of experiential avoidance in understanding the problems experienced by CSA survivors. Greenberg and colleagues' emotion theory (Greenberg & Pavio, 1998; Greenberg, Rice, & Elliott, 1993; Greenberg & Savin, 1987) is useful in highlighting the way in which early abuse experiences can impair emotional development a...

In this article, we review the literature concerning childhood sexual abuse and sexual dysfunction. Greenberg and colleagues' emotion theory (Greenberg & Pavio, 1998; Greenberg, Rice, & Elliott, 1993; Greenberg & Savin, 1987) is useful in highlighting the way in which early abuse experiences can impair emotional development and result in maladaptive emotional schemes contributing to sexual problems. Treatments for CSA survivors' sexual problems based on the two above theories are outlined. The question concerning the applicability of traditional sex therapy for CSA survivors versus a modified treatment is discussed and recent developments in the field of sexual functioning as well as future directions for the field are also highlighted.
