Production Decline Analysis
Petroleum Production Engineering, 2020Co-Authors: William C. Lyons, Ali GhalamborAbstract:This chapter presents empirical models and procedure for using these models to perform production Decline data analyses. Production Decline analysis is a traditional means of identifying well production problems and predicting well performance and life span based on real production data. It uses empirical Decline models that have little fundamental justification. These models include exponential Decline (constant fractional Decline), Harmonic Decline, and hyperbolic Decline. Although the hyperbolic Decline model is more general, the other two models are degenerations of the hyperbolic Decline model. The relative Decline rate and production rate Decline equations for the exponential Decline model can be derived from volumetric reservoir model. Cumulative production expression is obtained by integrating the production rate Decline equation. Computer programs can be used for model identification, model parameter determination, and production rate prediction.

Study on the production Decline law of Chuankou Oilfield
Inner Mongolia Petrochemical Industry, 2020Co-Authors: Ma Hong-zhAbstract:The production Decline formulas proposed by J.J.Arps are applied to carry out the production Decline regression in Chuankou Oilfield. The regression results are close to the actual production,it is considered the change of oil production Decline of Chuankou Oilfield is Harmonic Decline pattern.Harmonic Decline is used to forecast the future production Decline situation.Aimed at the status of the oilfield development, the countermeasure is put forward to slow the production Decline, the study provided important warranty for oilfield's farther scientific and rational development.

Gas Well Testing Handbook - Chapter 16 – Application of Decline Curve Analysis Methods
Gas Well Testing Handbook, 2020Co-Authors: Amanat U. ChaudhryAbstract:This chapter deals with analysis of Decline curves during the transient and pseudo-steady-state flow periods. It discusses the classifications of production Decline curves and their practical uses are with field examples including methods to forecast performance of horizontal and vertical fracture gas reservoirs. The chapter also explains the use of the general infinite-acting solution and reservoir properties, to calculate wellbore conditions during the transient production period of a gas well. Based on this understanding, the development and the pertinent relationship for three types of production Decline curves on coordinate, semilog and, log–log graph paper are derived. Decline curve analysis is a useful tool for reserves estimation and production forecasts, and also serve as diagnostic tools and indicates the need for stimulation or remedial work. Production Decline curves are of three types—exponential Decline, hyperbolic Decline, and Harmonic Decline.

a non iterative method of Decline curve analysis
Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2010Co-Authors: Hamid Hosseinzade KhanamiriAbstract:Abstract Decline curve analysis is one of the reserve estimation methods. It is widely used by companies and engineers. The oldest and most popular method is Arp's empirical equation. There is no theoretical basis for Arp's equations. Exponential equation almost always underestimates the flow rate and cumulative production and on the other hand Harmonic Decline overestimates. Also the parameters of hyperbolic equation cannot be calculated directly. In that case, using non-linear type curves or iteration is necessary. In this article, first, two semi-theoretical rate–time equations were derived of which one is for oil reservoir and the other for gas reservoir. Flow equation in case of a boundary-dominated flow was modified to obtain an equation that consists of flow rate, time and some constants. In the second step, various approaches of calculating coefficients were discussed. In fact, an integrated study of the stated problem was done by evaluating a number of physical concepts and applying dimensional analysis. In this way, two correlations were proposed with which the coefficients were related to the inverse of time. Finally the proposed method, exponential, Harmonic and hyperbolic equations were applied to actual field data and the results were analyzed and compared. In case of oil reservoir, the comparison between output of the proposed method and that of hyperbolic equation led to the same average error and in case of two gas wells, the proposed method was as reliable as the Arp's method. In the aspect of applicability, there is a significant distinction between the two methods. In the case of Arp's hyperbolic equation, iteration was used to find the best match; however, applying the new method does not need any iteration and it is enough to do a simple calculation to get the result.

Study on Production Decline Law of Chang 6 Reservoir in Wuliwan Block,Jing'an Oilfield
Liaoning Chemical Industry, 2020Co-Authors: Bai XuAbstract:Based on Arps experience Decline curve equation(exponential Decline,Harmonic Decline, hyperbolic Decline),with actual production data of Wuliwan reservoir Decline period as the basis, and combined with the generalized Decline curve standard plate method, types of production Decline were judged by using the common Decline type judgment method(graphical method, trial and error method, curve displacement method, bivariate regression method, and the Decline curve standard plate method).Combining with various methods and mutual authentication can improve the accuracy of comprehensive judgment, and the best decrement type can been chosen. The example calculation shows that the comprehensive judgment method has high feasibility for calculating Decline parameters of Wuliwan reservoir.
