  • Hazardous Waste DISPOSAL
    Resources Conservation and Recycling, 1996
    Co-Authors: Chettiyappan Visvanathan
    Abstract:

Abstract Disposal of Hazardous Waste is the final stage of a Hazardous Waste management system. Almost all possible disposal methods necessitate proper pre-treatment, in order to have secure disposal facilities. This article summarizes principles of different Waste disposal methods namely: incineration, immobilization, landfill, off-shore and underground storage. Advantages, disadvantages and its applicability for developing country context are presented.

  • The Disposal Method and Application of Hazardous Waste in Wuhan
DEStech Transactions on Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
    Co-Authors: Xuying Yuan, Shulan Lou
    Abstract:

According to the data analyses of the output and disposal volume of Hazardous Waste in Wuhan from 2010 to 2015, it turns out to be rising and the main disposal method to deal with the Hazardous Waste is burning. The Hazardous Waste disposal relies on the ability of the disposal center in Wuhan. The key burning technology of Hazardous Waste is elaborated using the compound mode of rotary kiln and mechanical grate in the research.

  • Household Hazardous Waste Management - Household Hazardous Waste Management
    2017
    Co-Authors: Daniel Mmereki
    Abstract:

Rapid global urbanization and increases in living standards in recent decades have led to changes in the household Hazardous Waste (HHW) generation characteristics due to increases in buying power and easier access to products that are convenient but not always safe. In recent years, the amount of diversified Hazardous materials and/or potentially Hazardous materials, such as cleaning products, medicines, personal care products, packaging and container products, phthalates, and antibacterial agents, poses a serious threat to the environment and public health. As a result developed countries have adopted well-functioning policy measures and innovative technologies to deal with HHW. On the other hand, developing countries have weak institutional structures and poor policy performance and have adopted ad hoc approaches to manage HHW. The book contains five chapters covering topics of household Hazardous Waste management and exposure assessment. This book will be useful to many research scientists, solid and Hazardous Waste managers, administrators, librarians, and students in the scope of development in solid and Hazardous Waste management program including sources of household Hazardous Waste, exposure assessment, and government policies on Waste generation and treatment and processing of HHW

  • The Management of Hazardous Waste in Developing Countries
    Management of Hazardous Wastes, 2016
Co-Authors: Daniel Mmereki, Adrew Baldwin, Liu Hong
    Abstract:

This book chapter discusses the management of Hazardous Waste in developing countries, with particular emphasis on industrial Hazardous Waste, medical Waste, and household Hazardous Waste. It seeks to identify the current situation and also aims to provide a review of the existing strategies that are particularly related to Hazardous Waste management. In developing countries, Hazardous Waste management systems lack a systematic approach to administer Waste management programmes; inability to effectively collect and manage Wastes as well as to reduce the negative impacts of those activities. The current regulatory frameworks and regulations do not adequately address Hazardous Waste treatment and final disposal. There are inadequacies in the implementation of regulations associated with Hazardous Waste management due to fragmented responsibilities among government departments and local authorities. The chapter provides practical best processes for the management of Hazardous Waste aimed at improving the current situation.
