sedating effects of Humulus lupulus l extracts
Zeitschrift für Phytotherapie, 2009Co-Authors: Hartmut Schiller, Adrian Forster, Christian Vonhoff, Mirjam Hegger, Andreas Biller, H WinterhoffAbstract:SEDATING EFFECTS OF Humulus LUPULUS L. EXTRACTSAlthough extracts from Humulus LUPULUS are traditionally used as sedating drugs, very few pharmacological studies have so far been performed. Ethanolic and CO 2 extracts from Humulus LUPULUS were tested for sedating activity in mice. Dosedependent reduction of locomotor activity and an increase in narcotica-induced sleep duration were observed, confirming sedation, whereas no indication of anxiolytic activity was seen in the Elevated Plus Maze test. The β-bitter acids were identified as the most effective constituens, but β-bitter acids and hop oil also proved to have a sedating effect.

sedating effects of Humulus lupulus l extracts
Phytomedicine, 2006Co-Authors: Hartmut Schiller, Adrian Forster, Christian Vonhoff, Mirjam Hegger, Andreas Biller, H WinterhoffAbstract:Abstract It was the aim of the study to check ethanolic and CO 2 extracts from Humulus lupulus for sedating activity. Both preparations reduced the spontaneous locomotor activity, increased the ketamine-induced sleeping time and reduced body temperature, confirming a central sedating effect. No indications of anxiolytic activity were found in the elevated plus maze test for any of the test preparations. This sedating activity could be attributed to three categories of constituents of lipophilic hops extracts. Though the α -bitter acids proved to the be most active constituents, the β -bitter acids and the hop oil clearly contributed to the sedating activity of lipophilic Humulus extracts.

neuroprotective effects of xanthohumol a prenylated flavonoid from hops Humulus lupulus in ischemic stroke of rats
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2012Co-Authors: Wanjung Lu, Chengying Hsieh, George Hsiao, Duensuey Chou, Gongjhe Wu, Joen Rong SheuAbstract:Xanthohumol is the principal prenylated flavonoid in hops (Humulus lupulus L.), an ingredient of beer. Xanthohumol was found to be a potent chemopreventive agent; however, no data are available con...
