  • Comparison of Life Quality Identity Crisis Among Usual and Menopause Women
    2014
Co-Authors: Sharareh Tafazoli Aghvami, Fariborz Bagheri
    Abstract:

Background: One of the most critical periods of women’s life is subjected to the process of menopause. Objective: The main aim of the study was to compare the Identity Crisis among the menopause and usual women. A comparative-causative method was used to study the research. 60 women higher than 45 years old with early menopause symptoms due to the disease or surgery and 60 non-menopause women higher than 30 year old dwelling in Tehran cosmopolitan participated in this research. They filled the Identity Crisis questionnaire. Data were analyzed by the use of means comparison method and SPSS software. Results: The results indicated that there is a significant difference between the Identity Crisis of normal and menopause women. Only menopause and non menopause women had significant difference in terms of tradition subscale. Conclusion: Due to the obtained results of the present study, it can be concluded that the menopause has a negative impact on the Identity Crisis among menopause women.

  • Design of Impulsiveness, Emotional Self-regulation and Thrill Seeking Relation Model with Identity Crisis
European Journal of Experimental Biology, 2012
    Co-Authors: Fariborz Bagheri, Mostafa Ansariyon
    Abstract:

The present research studies relation of emotional self-regulation, thrill seeking and impulsiveness, and formation of Identity Crisis, aiming to understand a conceptual model within the theoretical framework and in form of a multivariate model. The study is of Ex post facto design and was performed in two phases. The subjects were assessed upon passing the least required score to identify Identity Crisis through personal Identity test using MARS Emotional Self-regulation questionnaire, Zuckerman Thrill Seeking scale and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale. In order to test the authenticity of the theoretical model of the study and calculate the effectiveness indexes, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used. Low emotional self-regulation in the youth results in increase of thrill seeking and impulsiveness in them and high degree of thrill seeking and impulsiveness increases the formation of Identity Crisis in them. This study emphasizes on the key role of emotional self-regulation skill in growth of healthy Identity and the most serious consequence of low emotional self-regulation disturbs growth of Identity and gives birth to the Identity Crisis.

  • psychological well being in relation to frailty a frailty Identity Crisis
    International Psychogeriatrics, 2012
Co-Authors: Melissa K Andrew, John D Fisk, Kenneth Rockwood
    Abstract:

Background: Frailty can be defined as the presence of multiple, interacting medical and functional problems. Frailty is associated with psychiatric conditions but its relation to psychological well-being is unclear. A “frailty Identity Crisis” has been proposed as a maladaptive response to the sense of self as health deficits accumulate. We evaluated this so-called Identity Crisis by investigating associations between well-being, frailty, and mortality in community-dwelling older Canadians. Methods: In this secondary analysis of the Canadian Study of Health and Aging ( N = 5,703; age 70+), frailty was defined by an index of 33 health deficits. Psychological well-being was measured using Ryff's 18-item scale, with six domains (autonomy, personal growth, environmental mastery, positive relations, purpose in life, and self-acceptance). Cognition was measured using the Modified Mini-Mental State Examination. Associations between well-being, frailty, and mortality were measured using linear regression, adjusting for age, sex, education, cognition, and mental health. Results: For each additional frailty-defining deficit, the psychological well-being score worsened by 0.3 points (0.29, 95% CI: 0.22–0.36, p Conclusions: Frailty was associated with low levels of well-being. Psychological well-being impaired by a frailty Identity Crisis may play an important role in defining subjective health in older adults.

Among the six domains of well-being, only “purpose in life” and “autonomy” were not associated with frailty (all others, p < 0.001). Worse psychological well-being was associated with five-year mortality independent of age, sex, education, frailty, and mental health; this association was not statistically significant when adjusting for baseline cognition. Conclusions: Frailty was associated with low levels of well-being. Psychological well-being impaired by a frailty Identity Crisis may play an important role in defining subjective health in older adults.
