  • ICB - Real-Time Model-Based Hand Localization for Unsupervised Palmar Image Acquisition
    Advances in Biometrics, 2009
    Co-Authors: Ivan Fratrić, Slobodan Ribarić
    Abstract:

Unsupervised and touchless Image Acquisition are two problems that have recently emerged in biometric systems based on hand features. We have developed a real-time model-based hand localization system for palmar Image Acquisition and ROI extraction. The system operates on video sequences and produces a set of palmprint regions of interest (ROIs) for each sequence. Hand candidates are first located using Viola-Jones approach and then the best candidate is selected using model-fitting approach. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the system for unsupervised palmar Image Acquisition in terms of speed and localization accuracy.

  • Image Acquisition Designing for SMT Solder Paste Deposition 3D Inspection
2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing, 2011
    Co-Authors: Bing Luo, Guanzhong Kou
    Abstract:

SMT solder paste deposition quality can be quickly inspected by 3D machine vision based on structured light projection. Digital Image Acquisition unit designing is one of the most important parts of the inspection system. This paper described a new structure of Image Acquisition unit designed for solder paste 3D inspection including camera, lens and projector choices, setting and calibration. The Image Acquisition and calibration experimental results showed that the designed Image Acquisition unit could satisfy the 3D inspection precision demands.

  • Image Acquisition techniques for assessment of legume quality
Trends in Food Science and Technology, 2015
Co-Authors: Shveta Mahajan, Amitava Das, Harish Kumar Sardana
    Abstract:

This paper reviews different Image Acquisition techniques that have been employed for quality evaluation of leguminous seeds and has relevance for engineers, food scientists and other agricultural researchers. The inspection and quality evaluation of food grains using machine vision can be achieved with greater speed, consistency and accuracy. Image Acquisition is central to the success of any quality inspection system based on machine vision. Soybeans, peas, beans, lentils and chickpeas are the legumes, which form the staple food and hence have great ecological and economic importance. The Image Acquisition techniques that are reviewed in this paper are non-destructive in nature and are based on visible, infrared and other bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. These include techniques for external surface examination, measurement of moisture content, oil content, insect infestation detection and internal structure visualization. The advantages of machine-vision techniques over the conventional techniques based on manual methods for seed quality estimation are also discussed.

  • Classification and characterization of Image Acquisition for 3D scene visualization and reconstruction applications
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2001
Co-Authors: Shou-kang Wei, Fay Huang, Reinhard Klette
    Abstract:

This paper discusses the techniques of Image Acquisition for 3D scene visualization and reconstruction applications (3DSVR). The existing Image Acquisition approaches in 3DSVR applications are briefly reviewed. There are still lacks of studies about what principles are essential in the design and how we can characterize the limitations of an Image Acquisition model in a formal way. This paper addresses some of the main characteristics of existing Image Acquisition approaches, summarized through a classification scheme and illustrated with many examples. The results of the classification lead to general characterizations in establishing the notions (basic components) for design, analysis and assessment of Image Acquisition models. The notions introduced include: focal set, receptor set, reflector set etc. The formal definitions of the notions and the exploration of relationships among the components are given. Various examples are provided for demonstrating the flexibility and compactness in characterizing different types of Image Acquisition models such as concentric, polycentric, cataoptrical panoramas etc. The observations, important issues, and future directions from this study are also elaborated.

  • ICPR (3) - Specification of Image Acquisition parameters for stereo panoramas
Object recognition supported by user interaction for service robots, 1
Co-Authors: Shou-kang Wei, Fay Huang, Reinhard Klette
    Abstract:

The specification of Image Acquisition parameters needs to be in accordance with given constraints defined by application requirements, the architecture of the camera, and specifications of the targeted 3D scenes. The paper proposes an approach for specifying Acquisition parameters at Image Acquisition time to ensure high-quality stereo panoramas. Our approach satisfies commonly demanded application requirements such as: proper scene composition in resultant Images; adequate sampling at a particular scene distance; and desired stereo quality (i.e. depth level resolution) over a diversity of scenes of interest. Previous studies have paid great attention to how proposed stereo panorama imaging models/methods support the epipolar geometry constraint and system realizations. The Image Acquisition parameter assignment problem has not yet been dealt with in these studies. The lack of guidance in specifying Image Acquisition parameters affects the validity of results for any subsequent processes.
