McnaullAbstract:AbstractThis study examined the responses of teachers of seventh- and eigth-grade learning disabled students to a questionnaire on the amount and type of Training they had completed, their attitudes toward microcomputers, and their reported use of microcomputers. Teachers who reported the highest levels of both university and Inservice Training expressed significantly more favorable attitudes toward microcomputer use and significantly greater microcomputer use than did respondents who reported completing the lowest levels of such Training. Age of respondent and years of teaching experience were not significant influences on either expressed attitudes or reported use. Possible explanations for the findings are discussed.

University-Secondary School Cooperation for Inservice Training in Computer Use for Mathematics Instruction

PinkhamAbstract:AbstractThis paper describes the first two years of a long-term project to improve mathematics instruction on the precollege level through computer use. Stevens Institute of Technology has initiated a project which involves teacher Inservice Training and summer workshops to encourage teachers to integrate computers in their mathematics instruction. Stevens faculty have been working closely with high school teachers from five diverse school systems. The faculty’s organizational efforts encourage collaboration among each district’s personnel at all levels. The project expects to develop instructional materials for mathematics which are applicable nationwide and to create a successful model for university-secondary school partnerships to encourage computer integration in mathematics classes. Teachers' responses to project activities are discussed.
