    'Medknow', 2021
Co-Authors: Surinder Kumar, Arun Kumar Yadav, Renuka Kunte, Simrandeep Kaur, Jyoti Yadav, Vijay Bhaskar, Saurabh Mahajan
    Abstract:

Introduction: Risk communication is a vital component of the management of health-care crisis including the present pandemic. The health-care professionals play an important role in risk communication; however, health-care professionals have been found wanting when it comes to risk communication during any health-care crisis. The doctors/health-care professionals, being the technical personnel, are required to provide the technical information in a nontechnical or laymen language to the relevant authorities, which in turn are expected to share this knowledge to the people at risk. This study attempts to unravel the perceptions of health-care professionals on this important topic concerning public health. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was designed for the study question. An online survey was conducted based on Google Forms using snowball sampling technique. The data, collected using a pilot-tested questionnaire, were compiled in MS Excel and analyzed using SPSS software version 23. Requisite permission was taken from the Institutional Ethic committee. All participants were informed of the voluntary nature of the study, and the data collection was done in an anonymous manner. Results: A majority of participants (61.5%) answered in affirmative when asked if they know what risk communication is and 13 (7.7%) were not aware of it. A majority of the participants (60.9%) perceived risk communication as an exchange of information between health experts and general public, whereas 23 (13.6%) participants felt that risk communication is exchange of information between health experts and other health-care workers. Rumor management was not considered an essential part of risk communication by about half (48.5%) of the participants. Conclusion: We found significant gaps in the knowledge and perception of risk communication in the health-care professionals, which can be attributed to lack of training. Risk communication needs to be incorporated as a part of formal medical education to plug this gap

    Abstract:

Introduction Precise impact of nutritional insufficiencies in adolescence as a risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCD) in later life as adults remains largely unknown. We are conducting research into the effects of nutrition on adolescent girls of Ratnagiri district by a prospective cohort study (aDolescent and prEconception health peRspectiVe of Adult Non-communicable diseases cohort). Our study focuses on the physical health, nutritional parameters and cognitive profiles of adolescent girls, during the prenatal and postnatal period and we aim to follow this cohort and their offspring for 20 years. Methods and analysis Cohort recruitment began in June 2019. Our aim is to recruit more than 1500 adolescent girls, age 16–18 years, over a period of 3 years. The recruit’s cognition, diet and physical activity will be recorded. The following investigations will be performed: body composition by anthropometry and bioimpedence, and blood pressure, fasting blood sample to measure glucose, insulin, lipids, micronutrients and hormones, abdominal ultrasonography to measure liver, pancreas and kidneys.A biorepository has been created for long-term storage of blood, urine and saliva samples for future analysis. By this longitudinal study, we aim to identify the effects of malnutrition on the behavioural and biological measures in adolescent subjects and evaluate if these are associated with the onset of NCDs in adulthood.Ethics and dissemination Institutional Ethic Committee (IEC) of BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College and Hospital has granted the permission to carry out the study. IEC is registered with Government of India. Its registration code is EC/755/INST/MH/2015/RR-18. It is not a clinical trial but as required we have also registered the study on Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI). The registration code is CTRI/2019/04/018453.Appropriate written informed consent and assent are obtained from the parents and the adolescent girls, respectively. We plan to publish our results in peer-reviewed journals

  • Par-delà le scandale ! Comprendre les vulnérabilités organisationnelles à la base des crises et trouver des stratégies pour mieux gérer les risques éthiques
    'OpenEdition', 2017
    Co-Authors: Boisvert Yves
    Abstract:

This article reflects our research exposing scandals and new knowledge in regards to organizational vulnerabilities. It presents a segment of our results analyzing the exploratory research carried out within the new municipal administration of the city of Laval. This research aimed to validate the usefulness of Ethical risk diagnostics designed for organizations trying to emerge from a scandal chaos. Our research project, about Ethical risk management in public organizations, has been developed to overcome limits of traditional applied Ethics, in order words, a purely individual Ethic that is often limited to question professional responsibility and promote strict Ethical ability of individuals. Instead, our research approach adopts Institutional Ethic, that is, an Ethic inviting us to question individual and collective actions by putting them into situational contexts. Institutional Ethic leads us to reflect on both the quality of professional conduct and the factors present in a work environment that prompt to negative impact on the quality of Ethic conduct. This article is intended to demonstrate that research on Ethics in public organization can no longer be restricted to the analysis of Ethical values and the resolution of Ethical dilemmas behind closed doors. We believe it must be extended to more systematic analyses of several concepts such as normative framework, regulatory bodies, organizational culture, Institutional design and management process. These would help comprehend all Institutional dimensions influencing the quality of individuals' Ethic behaviour
