  • the corporate brand an Intangible Resource as a basis for sustainable competitive advantage
    Journal of Economics, 2016
Co-Authors: Elena Veselinova, Trajko Miceski, Marija Gogova Samonikov
    Abstract:

Studies of the sources of sustainable competitive advantage basically focus on one of the following alternatives: isolating the opportunities and threats and describing the strengths and weaknesses of the companies or analyzing how the first and second alternative to be integrated in order to choose the appropriate strategy. This is the main subject analyzed in this paper. Thinking that the competitive advantage, rather than the external environment, is the primary source of profitability for the company, the attention of companies is drawn towards the sources of sustainable competitive advantage. The Resource position of the company is an equally important issue in strategic management just as the choice between differentiation and cost leadership in either wider or narrower market segment. For example, the selection of a strategy of cost leadership implies the existence of: economy of scale, superior process technology, ownership or access to cheap inputs as well as cheap labor. Analogous to this, the advantage of differentiation involves: strong brand, reputation, protected technology, specific channels of distribution and specialization in sales and aftersales services. The purpose of this paper is to show that the company's strategy should defocus from the claims for monopoly profits (returns from market power) and look for the Ricardo’s earnings (return on the Resources that provide a competitive advantage over the actual cost of such Resources). The corporate brand as the most specific Resource of companies plays well such a role. The process of selection and implementation of the strategy should result in a choice that most effectively utilizes this key Resource. Thus, the research involved analysis of a sample of companies, using a semi-structured questionnaire and the results were acquired through proper statistical analysis. The research results lead to a clear understanding of the dominance of the corporate brand in terms of the features that a source of sustainable competitive advantage should meet.

  • Intangible Resource management social capital theory development for public relations
    Journal of Communication Management, 2016
    Co-Authors: Melissa D Dodd
    Abstract:

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize a meso-level (organizational) social capital theoretical approach to public relations. A theory and conceptualization of social capital as a Resource- and exchange-based function of public relations is proposed. Here it is argued that public relations professionals serve as the managers of Intangible Resources on behalf of organizations. These Intangibles serve as social capital for organizations and are managed through strategic, goal-directed communication behaviors. Social capital is conceptualized alongside other forms of capital that contribute to organizational advantage. The author proposes a conceptual social capital model of public relations and argues that the strategic management of Intangible Resources as social capital offers an ontology for public relations. Design/methodology/approach The author employed a process of open-system theory building. Extensive research from multi-disciplinary areas of scholarship – namely, sociology, business, and public relations – formed the basis for the conceptualized model and propositions. Findings Public relations theory is narrowly defined and does not offer an adequate ontology. This paper extends and refines existing public relations scholarship surrounding social capital to focus on competitive advantages for the organization. This paper uses input from the larger fields of sociology and business, while contextualizing social capital within the public relations scholarship. The result is a Resource- and exchange-based social capital model of public relations and propositions for further theory building and empirical analyses. Practical implications The public relations discipline often struggles to demonstrate return-on-investment for organizations. The social capital model of public relations offers support for the capital generation and maintenance role of public relations for organizational advantage. Originality/value This paper represents one of the first comprehensive attempts at developing a meso-level social capital theory of public relations focused on Intangible Resource management for the organization.

  • the Intangible intellectual Resource curse
    Journal of Intellectual Capital, 2002
Co-Authors: Milorad M Novicevic, Michael Harvey, Niranjan Pati, Thomas Kuffel, Thomas J Hench
    Abstract:

This paper examines the limits of pragmatism in strategy formulation in the new, knowledge‐rich economy. By tracing the history of pragmatism in social and management thought, and assessing the commonalties and complementarities between a firm’s vision and mission, we explore the possibility and consequences of an Intangible Resource curse for firms pursuing strategies of incessant pragmatic growth in the expanding Web‐based domain. Ultimately, we posit a combined influence of market‐based governance and strategy simplification as an effective antidote to the executive Intangible Resource binging, which is sustainable as long as confidence and trust continue to be shared among the firm stakeholders.

  • GENERATING Intangible Resource AND INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE: INSIGHTS INTO ENTERPRISES ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND CAPABILITY AT TRADE SHOWS
Journal of Business Economics and Management, 2019
Co-Authors: Tsui Yii Shih, Chien-ching Yang
    Abstract:

This paper helps to achieve a better understanding of the relationships among organizational behaviors, capabilities and the Intangible Resources of firms as a micro-level origin of the internationalization of enterprises. The Resource-based view, strategic management theory, knowledge absorption and establishment practice, trade show issues and model theory development are integrated and implications offered for both scholars and practitioners. It integrates a research model based on trade show practices, and concentrates on the experimental conditions targeted by the respondents. The mediating roles of enterprises’ Intangible Resources are also discussed. Based on a sample of trade development groups, 256 completed questionnaires were used to examine the hypotheses. The hypotheses were tested using structural equation models. The findings show that relationship building positively influences relationship performance. The relationship performance has a significant mediating role on the effects of information sharing on international performance. Moreover, commitment to learning and high absorptive capacity of a firm determines the innovation performance of firms and contributes to their international performance.

  • an empirical study of food and beverage chains internationalisation advancing Intangible Resource theory and research
European Journal of International Management, 2016
    Co-Authors: Tsui Yii Shih
    Abstract:

This study aims to identify important Intangible Resource dimensions and examines their effects on the degrees of internationalisation and performance of food and beverage chains. International food and beverage chains in Taiwan's market serve as the target sample, and managers' perceptions are examined to verify the research content. A second-order PLS method is adopted in order to analyse the conceptual framework. The findings of the study indicate that reputation, technology and organisational culture play significant roles in firms' internationalisation. Further, technology has little effect, but reputation and organisational culture both have a positive and significant impact on F&B chains' performance. Advanced descriptions of practical situations, theoretical contributions and managerial implications are provided by this study in order to further the academic research on the food and beverage industry and help chains that plan to internationalise and improve their performance.
