It also shows how Venetian authorities commodified Intelligence by engaging citizens and subjects in a trade of information for mutual benefits. Ultimately, the article challenges our understanding of early modern political communication and offers a fresh vista of Intelligence as a business trait and economic necessity.

Evolving Military Intelligence: The Effect of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and the Military Intelligence Organization (MIO) During the Korean and Vietnam Wars
2017Co-Authors: Kenneth T KingAbstract:Abstract : This study focuses on the development of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and the Military Intelligence Organization (MIO). It addresses the need for leaders to understand why military Intelligence units developed. It argues that the U.S. Army implemented MIO too quickly, that it was not properly tested and may not have been a viable unit structure in a future war, though it was effective in the Vietnam War. MIS on the other hand, predicated on small cellular teams that can deploy flexibly and quickly, was developed based on World War II structures and recommendations of G-2s during that war. Brigadier General Thomas F. MIO manning and doctrine, published in 1956, established the military Intelligence Organizations that deployed into Vietnam a decade later. However, the Army never fully implemented MIO due to personnel and budget cuts. Units organized under MIS and MIO, aided by the slow build-up and the primacy given to Intelligence collection during the initial stages of the conflict, performed well during the Vietnam War. While MIS and MIO were successful in Vietnam, there are still deficiencies leaders must consider when utilizing the Organizations or during future changes of how military Intelligence supports tactical combat commanders.

IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, 2005Co-Authors: K Y K NgAbstract:In this paper, we have developed a project scheduling approach to analyze the operational mode for an information technology Intelligence Organization during a time of crisis. The paper assumes that the number of servers and the steady-state average waiting times at each node (characterized by GI/G/s queues) of the Organization network are computed a priori. Under standard assumptions of the program evaluation and review technique (PERT), the Organization network is transformed into an activity-on-arc digraph. The problem of meeting a shortened deadline for projects during a time of crisis is formulated via an optimization model with a nonlinear cost time tradeoff objective function. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to gain insights on the effect of input data on the objective function. A generic example from the Canadian Forces Geomatics division is employed to illustrate the methodology.

The Israel Mossad has become the leading agency in Israel's success in the conflict with the Arab states. Its mission not only includes that of ascertaining the plans and strengths of the Arab military forces opposing Israel but also the work of combating Arab terrorism in Israel and abroad against Israeli and Jewish targets, collecting sensitive technical data, and conducting political-liaison and propaganda operations. The Israel Intelligence community is composed of four separate components: the Mossad is responsible for Intelligence gathering and operations in foreign countries; the Israeli Security Agency controls internal security and Intelligence within the occupied territories; the Military Intelligence is responsible for collecting military, geographic, and economic Intelligence, particularly in the Arab world and along Israel's borders; and the Center for Political Research in the Foreign Ministry prepares analysis for government policymakers based on raw Intelligence and analytical papers. This article discusses the Organization, failures, and successes of the Israeli Intelligence. Particular attention is given to the huge mistakes and failures of the Israeli Intelligence. Discussions included herein are: the evolution of the Israeli Intelligence and the future challenges of the Intelligence system.
