    This paper presents a Windows-based Interactive Graphic package developed by the authors for the education and training of the power system modeling, analysis and operation with a user-friendly Graphical user interface (GUI) and visual database management system (VDBMS). To achieve this goal, the package is designed to have following features: a Graphic editor to visually edit the power system diagram; Windows-based power system database to Interactively manage the data; Graphic representations; animation; and interrupting schemes. The application programs in this package include the power flow calculation, transient stability analysis, fault analysis, economic dispatch and automatic load-frequency control. This package may be useful for educational and training purposes.

    Abstract:

    Abstract The planning and management of the services offered by any intercity passenger transportation company involve two key levels of concern that can be characterized as follows: 1. (1) the strategic “market-oriented” level where one is mainly concerned with the design of an efficient timetable that best suits travellers' expectations, but with little consideration for operational and feasibility issues, and 2. (2) the operational level where, on the contrary, one mainly addresses such issues—notably the routing and scheduling of vehicles (which ultimately determines the service timetable)—to the detriment of marketing considerations. In this paper, a decision support system is presented which aims at reconciling both levels of concern within an integrated Interactive-Graphic framework. The main components of the computer system are described, its database structure and the underlying algorithmic method are outlined and experimental results are reported.

    This paper examines the structure and components of a Decision Support System designed to assist the tactical planning of activities of an intercity multimode multicommodity freight transportation system, using the tactical planning of LTL motor-carrier operations as an example. In particular, such a computer-based planning system has to combine a "local" data base, together with procedures to access and analyze it, interfaces with the management information system of the company, problem modeling and scenario defining facilities, optimization algorithms and post-optimal procedures and, Interactive-Graphic capabilities to display and help analyze data and results (A).

    Abstract:

    We present three novel tools for creating data Graphics: (1) SageBrush, for assembling Graphics from primitive objects like bars, lines and axes, (2) SageBook, for browsing previously created Graphics relevant to current needs, and (3) SAGE, a knowledge-based presentation system that automatically designs Graphics and also interprets a user's specifications conveyed with the other tools. The combination of these tools supports two complementary processes in a single environment: design as a constructive process of selecting and arranging Graphical elements, and design as a process of browsing and customizing previous cases. SAGE enhances userdirected design by completing partial specifications, by retrieving previously created Graphics based on their appearance and data content, by creating the novel displays that users specify, and by designing alternatives when users request them. Our approach was to propose interfaces employing styles of interaction that appear to support Graphic design. Knowledge-based techniques were then applied to enable the interfaces and enhance their usability.
