    Abstract:

    ABSTRAK Annisa Solechah Sesatrayane, G0015025, 2018. Hubungan antara Faktor Risiko Food-borne dan Water-borne Diseases dengan Kejadian Isosporiasis pada Penduduk Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS) Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY Latar belakang: Isospora belli adalah parasit protozoa yang dapat menyebabkan penyakit bernama isosporiasis dimana parasit ini dapat menyerang saluran pencernaan manusia. Isosporiasis dapat menjadi faktor risiko terhadap manusia melalui food - borne dan water - borne. Food - borne dan water - borne pada isosporiasis dikaitkan dengan konsumsi makanan mentah dan air mentah yang terkontaminasi oleh ookista Isospora belli yang telah mengalami sporulasi. Penelitian mengenai isosporiasis yang dikaitkan dengan food - borne dan water - borne disease masih jarang dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi hubungan antara faktor risiko food - borne dan water - borne disease dengan kejadian isosporiasis di DAS Bedog Mlati, Sleman, DIY. Metode penelitian: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Responden penelitian dipilih secara simple random sampling sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi yang sudah ditetapkan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di DAS Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY. Variabel bebas adalah faktor risiko food-borne dan waterborne diseases. Variabel terikat adalah angka kejadian isosporiasis. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dan pemeriksaan sampel feses menggunakan pengecatan Modified Ziehl Neelsen. Hasil penelitian: Tidak ditemukan infeksi isosporiasis pada responden penelitian. Faktor risiko food-borne dan water-borne diasease tidak berpengaruh terhadap kejadian isosporiasis. Simpulan penelitian: Tidak ditemukan hubungan antara faktor risiko foodborne dan water-borne diseases dengan kejadian isosporiasis pada penduduk DAS Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY. The Relationship between Food-borne and Water-borne Diseases Risk Factors with the Incidence of Isosporiasis in Residents of Watersheds Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY Background: Isospora belli is parasitic protozoan that can cause a disease called isosporiasis which can infect human gastrointestinal tract. Isosporiasis can be a risk factor to human through food - borne and water - borne. Food - borne and water - borne disease in isosporiasis can be associated with consuming raw food and raw water that has been contaminated by sporulated oocyst of Isospora belli. Research about isosporiasis that associated with food - borne and water - borne disease still seldom to conduct. This study aims to identify the risk factors of food - borne and water - borne disease associated with the incidence of isosporiasis in residents of Watersheds Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY. Methods: This research is a qualitative research. The respondents of this study were selected by simple random sampling according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria that has been established. This research is conduct in watershed Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY. The independent variable is food – borne and water – borne diseases risk factors, whereas the dependent variable is the incidence of isosporiasis. The data was collected by answer the questionnaire and examine of fecal samples using Modified Ziehl Neelsen staining. Result: There was no infection with isosporiasis among respondents. Factors of food-borne and water-borne diaseases do not affect with the occurrence of isosporiasis. Conclusion: There is no relationship between food-borne risk factors and waterborne diseases with the incidence of isosporiasis in residents of Watersheds Bedog, Mlati, Sleman, DIY.     Abstract: Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli are opportunistic pathogens implicated in diarrheal diseases in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals. The disease is however more severe and protracted in immunocompromised, Human immunodeficiency virus infected/AIDS patients with fatal consequences. There are no universally effective treatment guidelines for cryptosporidiosis. The research at the KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital Kumasi, aimed to investigate and determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli infection in the community, in HIV/AIDS and Non-HIV patients, in line with the quest for the first-of-its-kind, comprehensive surveillance data and information on the prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli infection in the community, as tests for the detection of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli infection is not a routine at the KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital and other hospitals across Ghana. This research will help in determination of infection risk, effective management of opportunistic Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli infections in HIV/AID

The research at the KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital Kumasi, aimed to inve stigate and determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli in fection in the community, in HIV/AIDS and Non-HIV patients, in line with the que st for the first-of-its-kind, comprehensive surveillance data and information on the prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli infection in the community, as tests for the detection of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli inf ection is not a routine at the KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital and other hospitals a cross Ghana. This research will help in determination of infection ri sk, effective management of opportunistic Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli in fections in HIV/AIDS patients and for the general prevention and control of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli outbreak in the community. The modif ied acid-fast staining protocol (Kinyoun) was used for the demonstration a nd identification of Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli oocysts in fecal specimens. A generally high overall Cryptosporidium prevalence of 8.2% was reco rded among the 413 (both HIV and non-HIV) patients examined at the KomfoAnok ye Teaching Hospital Kumasi, between Dec.2003-Mar.2004. None of the pati ents examined tested positive for Isospora belli. A very high Cryptospor idium prevalence was recorded in symptomatic,diarrheal HIV positive pati ents (33.3%). A general trend of decreasing Cryptosporidium prevalence with increasing age was also observed. Strict adherence to preventive measures edrinking boiled or adequately filtered bottled water is strongly recom mended for HIV/AIDS patients and young children. Continuing surveillance of Cryp tosporidium and Isospora belli infections in the community is warranted.
