BoseAbstract:Fifty patients with isolated open tibial shaft fractures were reviewed to determine the incidence and type of Knee Ligament injuries sustained. Eighteen patients (36 per cent) had at least one Ligament injury in the ipsilateral Knee; eight had multiple Ligament injuries. Only four patients (22 per cent) were diagnosed as having a Ligament injury at the time of initial management and the remaining 14 patients were diagnosed at the time of review for this study. There is a high incidence of ipsilateral Knee Ligament injuries in open tibial shaft fractures; the Knee should be thoroughly examined at the time of initial fracture management.

Knee Ligament injuries in volleyball players

Papandrea, Fabio Conteduca, Pier Paolo MarianiAbstract:The authors report a series of 52 cases of serious Knee Ligament injuries in volleyball players. The most frequent mechanism of injury was landing from a jump in the attack zone. Women were more affected than men. Injuries were more frequent during games than training. Volleyball must then be considered among high-risk sports according to the frequency and gravity of our surgical findings. Results are similar to those obtained in athletes in other sports who underwent the same surgical procedure.

Our purpose was to describe treatment injuries to Knee Ligament reconstruction in Denmark during a 10-year period and to suggest initiatives to reduce the risk for treatment injuries.MethodsTreatment injuries after Knee Ligament reconstructions reported to the Danish Patient Compensation Association (DPCA) 2005–2014 were analyzed and compared to information from the Danish KneeLigament Reconstruction Register and Danish National Patient Register.ResultsThe number of Knee Ligament reconstructions in Denmark 2005–2014, including revisions, was 31,326. Of the 704 cases claimed to DPCA, 371 were approved as treatment injuries (1.42% of all operations). Tunnel malpositioning (135 = 0.43% of all operations), deep infection (0.27%), nerve injury (0.17%), pain (0.12%) and unrecognized combined instability (0.11%) were the most common.
