  • The evolutionary patterns of Knowledge Production in Korea
    Scientometrics, 2013
    Co-Authors: Jae-yong Choung, Hye-ran Hwang
    Abstract:

The recent trend of rapid growth in the scientific and engineering activities in East Asian Newly Industrializing Economies (NIEs) resulted in a change in the structure of world Knowledge Production. In South Korea, particularly, not only the numbers of publications have increased, but there is a noticeable change in the composition of scientific and engineering activities. This paper notes the most of the research on the Knowledge Production of advanced countries, along with a handful of studies about the Knowledge Production of latecomers. Recent changes in the patterns of Knowledge Production in latecomer countries provoke the deeper understanding about the underlying mechanisms of ongoing change. Therefore, this paper explores the patterns of Knowledge Production activities in latecomers by analyzing scientific and engineering capabilities using empirical evidence from Korea. The results suggest that the patterns of accumulation of Knowledge Production in Korea gradually evolved from engineering to scientific activities. Important policy implications can be drawn from the findings for supporting scientific and engineering research activity in the latecomers in general and NIEs in particular.

  • Patterns of Knowledge Production: The case of information and telecommunication sector in Korea
    Scientometrics, 2003
    Co-Authors: Jae-yong Choung, Hong-ghi Min, Myeong-cheol Park
    Abstract:

In recent years, the topic of Knowledge Production has been widely investigated in the advanced countries. However, the process by which Knowledge is produced in the developing countries has not been fully explored or characterized. In Korea, the science and engineering fields strongly reflect systems of Knowledge Production in the universities and demonstrate the dynamics of systems of innovation for Knowledge Production. Through using a case study including data for Knowledge Production, in the field of information and telecommunication, the following general trends were observed. Firstly, there has been a trend towards increasing the capabilities for Knowledge Production, via domestic and foreign collaboration. Secondly, there has been an increasing trend towards the diversification of Knowledge sources such as university-industry, and university-public research institutes. Finally, the establishment of a nation's Knowledge base is influenced by governmental research and development policies.

  • Analysis on Implementation Condition of Mass Customization for Knowledge Production
Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing, 2012
    Co-Authors: Xingsan Qian
    Abstract:

The mass customization idea is introduced into Knowledge Production in this paper, and its implementation condition is analyzed. Firstly, the implementation conditions for mass customization are analyzed. Then, the main characteristics of modern Knowledge Production industry are discussed. Based on these characteristics, the implementation condition model for mass customization of Knowledge Production (MCKP) is constructed and analyzed deeply. The result indicates that mass customization is one of the main development trends of Knowledge Production Industry.

  • Study on Mass Customization for Knowledge Production and its Operation Mode
    iBusiness, 2009
    Co-Authors: Xingsan Qian
    Abstract:

With the development of network technology and the theory of mass customization for manufacturing, the Knowledge Production industry was impacted. On the driving of modern Knowledge Production characteristics and the drawing of the environment demand, a new Knowledge Production mode – the mass customization for Knowledge Production, was put forward. Based on the previous studies, the background and the concept model of Knowledge Production mode based on mass customization are introduced firstly; then, its operation processes are analyzed on spatial and time dimensions separately; finally, some issues are pointed out about the actualize of Knowledge Production based on mass customization.

  • The research of Knowledge Production of KIBS based on industry engineering
2009 16th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, 2009
    Co-Authors: Xingsan Qian
    Abstract:

Nowadays Knowledge Production of KIBS (Knowledge Intensive Business Services) has been successfully implemented in foreign countries, while domestic research in this field has not yet been carried out, and to some extent, this has hampered the Knowledge innovation of KIBS in China. This paper proposed the concept of Knowledge Production of KIBS, then compared research content of IE with research content of Knowledge Production of KIBS, analyzed three aspects of Knowledge Production of KIBS based on IE methodology: organized Knowledge system, operation process control, project management. At last, proposed the research field of Knowledge Production of KIBS, which tried to broaden the research field of industrial engineering.

  • Knowledge Production Modes and Its Fuzzy AHP Decision-Making Model
2008 4th International Conference on Wireless Communications Networking and Mobile Computing, 2008
    Co-Authors: Xingsan Qian
    Abstract:

Four Knowledge Production modes in China were divided in view of Production management and their operation modes were pointed out; then, a fuzzy AHP decision-making approach was applied considering the complexity and uncertainty of Knowledge Production. In this approach, the evaluation index system and hierarchy model were established based on the analysis of influencing factors on Knowledge Production evaluation, the triangular fuzzy numbers were introduced to substitute the scale value of conventional AHP for determining the weights of evaluation criteria, experts' opinions from many fields and the risk index of Knowledge Production modes conversion were considered, the Euclid Neartude between the fuzzy evaluation value and the fuzzy ideal value was used to measure the Knowledge Production.

  • Study on Mass Customization for Knowledge Production and its Cost Model
2008 4th International Conference on Wireless Communications Networking and Mobile Computing, 2008
    Co-Authors: Cuixiao Fu, Xingsan Qian
    Abstract:

Based on the mass customization for manufacturing, the mass customization for Knowledge Production is put forward with high-speeding development of network technology, and it has been studied fundamentally. This study focus on the cost of mass customization for Knowledge Production, as it is the chiefly problem to be considered for the Knowledge Production enterprises to get maximal profits. Firstly, the basic thought of the mass customization mode for Knowledge Production is introduced, and its operation mode is analyzed. Then, the related characteristics are discussed, where the stochastic and dynamic features are pointed out, and the objectives and constraints are explained. Subsequently, the cost model is set up based on the former analysis. Finally, the meaning of the mathematical model is analyzed.

  • Knowledge Production and world population dynamics
Technological Forecasting and Social Change, 2016
    Co-Authors: Boris M. Dolgonosov
    Abstract:

Abstract Three laws of Knowledge Production explaining the empirically observed hyperbolic growth of world population are formulated. Knowledge and demographic dynamics are developed on the basis of the least action principle to describe deviations from the hyperbolic growth. The efficiency of Knowledge Production defined as the share of technological Knowledge in total Knowledge Production is introduced. It is proven that a monotonic population growth with reaching a plateau is possible only when efficiency is 1. At a lower efficiency, population reaches a maximum and then declines. The estimated efficiency is currently not more than 0.1. The calculations show that if efficiency remains constant, population will peak at 9 billion in the mid-21st century and then decline to 5 billion or lower over several centuries. To keep population at a level of not less than 90% of maximum, it is necessary to raise efficiency of up to 0.31.
