  • Electrical conduction of BEDO–TTF–arachidic-acid Langmuir–Blodgett Films
Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2005
Co-Authors: Hiroomi Tamura, Shin-ichi Kuroda, Hideki Yamochi, Gunzi Saito
    Abstract:

Abstract We studied the electrical conduction of Langmuir–Blodgett Films formed by mixing BEDO–TTF and arachidic acid. Mylar Films are used as substrates easy to cut into appropriate size to be inserted into cryostats and pressure cells. Use of flexible substrate is advantageous for future application. Metallic conduction is achieved down to 130 K. For thick Films, conductivity shows a hysteresis that is ascribed to the mismatch of thermal contraction between the film and the substrate. By applying pressure up to 1 GPa, the conductivity increased and the hysteresis is suppressed.

  • Monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett Films of crown-substituted phthalocyanines
    Russian Chemical Bulletin, 2004
    Co-Authors: Vladimir V. Arslanov, Yu. G. Gorbunova, S. L. Selektor, L. S. Sheinina, O. G. Tselykh, Yu. Yu. Enakieva, A. Yu. Tsivadze
    Abstract:

Tetra-15-crown-5-phthalocyanine ligand and its ruthenium complex with axial CO and MeOH groups were synthesized. The properties of their monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett Films were studied. In the case of the ligand, monolayer Films of molecular associates are formed. The compatibility of the ligand and stearic acid in a mixed binary monolayer was established. Stearic acid improves the ligand distribution over the water surface and results in the formation of monolayer associates immobilized in its matrix. The condensation effect of Na+ cations on the mixed monolayers was found. The ruthenium complex (R4Pc)Ru(MeOH)(CO) forms stable true monolayers. The macrocycle planes in stacking are inclined relatively to the normal to the subphase surface by an angle of 25°. The Langmuir-Blodgett Films of the complex were established to have redox peaks. A high electrochemical stability of the Langmuir-Blodgett Films and a high electroactivity of phthalocyanine rings were demonstrated. It was shown by impedance spectroscopy that the binding of Na+ and K+ ions by Langmuir-Blodgett Films of the (R4Pc)Ru(MeOH)(CO) complex results in an increase in the impedance values in a region of medium frequencies by three and five times, respectively.

  • Polymer monolayers and Langmuir–Blodgett Films. Polythiophenes
    Russian Chemical Reviews, 2000
    Co-Authors: Vladimir V. Arslanov
    Abstract:

The structures and properties of monolayers and Langmuir–Blodgett Films of conducting oligo- and polythiophenes are analysed. The published data on the influence of the number, size, and composition of substituents in polythiophene molecules and of the pattern of their distribution along the chain on the monolayer stability and Langmuir–Blodgett film quality are generalised. Considerable attention is given to the description of the behaviour of mixed monolayers and Langmuir–Blodgett Films composed of polythiophenes and various amphiphilic compounds. The effective conjugation lengths of polymer chains and conductivities of polythiophenes in Langmuir–Blodgett Films and cast Films are compared. Examples of the use of Langmuir–Blodgett Films for scientific and technological purposes are given. The bibliography includes 100 references.

  • Monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett Films of yttrium stearate
Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 1997
    Co-Authors: Vladimir V. Arslanov, T. V. Zotova, I. A. Gagina
    Abstract:

The properties of the monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett Films of yttrium stearate were studied by the surface balance method, FTIR spectroscopy, and quartz crystal microbalance. The effects of the exposure time of monolayer, pH, and the concentration of yttrium ions in a subphase on the monolayer phase behavior and composition were considered. Two mechanisms of the conversion of acid into stearate in a monolayer spread on the water surface were identified. These mechanisms are determined by pH and the salt concentration in a subphase. At low degrees of acid ionization and concentration of yttrium ions in a subphase, the main mechanism is the process of ion exchange between the hydrogens of nonionized carboxyls and yttrium ions. At high pH values, the mechanism of acid conversion consists largely in the reaction between carboxyls and metal ions. Conditions required to produce high-quality Langmuir-Blodgett Films from yttrium stearate with the structure and properties identical to those of monolayer spread on the liquid surface are determined. It was shown that the Langmuir-Blodgett Films with a given content and type of cations may be produced regulating pH and metal ion concentration in a subphase. In this case, high pH values provide the formation of Y(OH)St 2 salt. The results obtained are compared with the published data for similar systems.

  • Polymer monolayers and Langmuir–Blodgett Films. Polymerisation reactions in organised molecular ensembles; structural transformations and properties
    Russian Chemical Reviews, 1991
    Co-Authors: Vladimir V. Arslanov
    Abstract:

The method of preparation, structure, and properties of monolayers on the surface of a liquid and of Langmuir–Blodgett Films on surface-active monomers are discussed. The influence of the chemical composition and structure of monomer molecules, the conditions for the preparation of organised ensembles, and the conditions in polymerisation reactions on the structural-morphological transformations in monolayers and Langmuir–Blodgett Films are considered. The bibliography includes 128 references.
