  • validation of a model measuring the effect of a project manager s Leadership Style on project performance
Ksce Journal of Civil Engineering, 2013
    Co-Authors: Liren Yang, Chungfah Huang
    Abstract:

This study validates a model for assessing the relationships among a project manager’s Leadership Style, teamwork, project performance, and stakeholder satisfaction. It determines whether the effect of Leadership Style on project performance can be mediated by teamwork. An industry-wide survey measured a project manager’s Leadership Style, teamwork, and project outcomes in project performance and stakeholder satisfaction. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach confirmed this research model. Analyses show that a project manager who adopts transactional and transformational Leadership can improve teamwork and capital facility project performance. Additionally, stakeholder satisfaction can be achieved with high levels of project success in schedule, cost, and quality performance. These findings show that teamwork can partially mediate relationships between Leadership Style and project performance.

  • the association among project manager s Leadership Style teamwork and project success
International Journal of Project Management, 2011
    Co-Authors: Liren Yang, Chungfah Huang
    Abstract:

Abstract This study aims to examine whether the impact of teamwork on project performance was moderated by the following data class variables: industry sector, total installed cost, owner regulation, initial site, team size, complexity, project type, and international involvement. Additionally, this study also investigated the relationships among the project manager's Leadership Style, teamwork, and project success. To address the primary aims, a questionnaire-based survey was used to measure the project manager's Leadership Style, teamwork, and project success in terms of schedule performance, cost performance, quality performance, and stakeholder satisfaction. The analyses suggest that increases in levels of Leadership may enhance relationships among team members. The results also indicate that teamwork exhibits statistically significant influence on project performance. Finally, the findings suggest that project type has a moderating effect on the relationship between teamwork dimensions and overall project success.

  • relationships among project manager s Leadership Style team interaction and project performance in the taiwanese server industry
    Quality & Quantity, 2012
Co-Authors: Liren Yang, Fangkuo Wang, Peichu Chin
    Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of the project manager’s Leadership Style with team interaction, and their impact on project performance. The second objective was to determine whether the effect of Leadership Style on project performance may be mediated by team interaction. To address the primary aims, a questionnaire-based survey was used to measure the project manager’s Leadership Style, team communication and collaboration, and overall performance of research and development (R&D) projects in the Taiwanese server industry. The analyses suggest that transformational Leadership may be positively related to team communication and collaboration. Additionally, levels of team communication and collaboration are positively associated with projects’ levels of performance. The results also indicate that team communication and collaboration may serve as mediators between transformational Leadership and project performance.

  • project manager s Leadership Style linked with schedule and cost performance
Mobile Adhoc and Sensor Systems, 2010
    Co-Authors: Liren Yang, Yenting Chen
    Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of the project manager's Leadership Style with teamwork, and their associations with project schedule and cost performance. The second objective was to determine whether the effect of Leadership Style on project performance may be mediated by teamwork. To address the primary aims, a questionnaire-based survey was used to measure the project manager's Leadership Style, teamwork in terms of communication, collaboration and cohesiveness, and project success in the areas of schedule and cost. The analyses suggest that project manager's Leadership Style, teamwork, and project performance are highly correlated. The findings also indicate that teamwork dimensions may partially or fully mediate the relationships between Leadership Style and project performance.

  • the effectiveness of charge nurse training on Leadership Style and resiliency
    Journal of Nursing Administration, 2020
Co-Authors: Leeanna Spiva, Stephan Davis, Jill Casewirth, Lisa Hedenstrom, Vicky Hogue, Melissa Box, Elizabeth Berrier, Chenille Jones, Susan Thurman, Kimberly Knotts
    Abstract:

Objective The study objective was to investigate a charge nurse pilot training program as an effective, evidence-based training modality to improve Leadership Style and resiliency. Background Leadership is inherent and necessary in the charge nurse role. Little published research about charge nurse Leadership training programs exists. Methods A pre-post design, with intervention and comparison groups, was conducted at an integrated healthcare system. A random sample of charge nurses was selected to pilot a standardized charge nurse Leadership training program including in-person learning to foster Leadership skills and nurture resiliency. Results The sample included 19 control participants and 22 intervention participants. Significant improvement was noted in transformational, transactional, Leadership outcomes, and resiliency from preintervention to postintervention for the all subjects. Of the 22 intervention participants, the training elicited higher satisfaction with Leadership behavior, followed by effectiveness and their ability to motivate. Charge nurses who attended training had higher resiliency scores pre-post intervention. Conclusion The charge nurse pilot training was an effective program that led to improved Leadership Style and resiliency.

  • the project manager s Leadership Style as a success factor on projects a literature review
    Project Management Journal, 2005
Co-Authors: Rodney J Turner, Ralf Muller
    Abstract:

The literature on general management research often identifies Leadership Style as a critical success factor impacting individual and organizational performance. In this paper, commissioned by the Project Management Institute, the authors survey the recent literature on project management to determine whether project management researchers consider Leadership Style a critical success factor when managing projects and whether they believe Leadership Style impacts project outcome. This paper opens by outlining the purpose of this study and then describing the general management literature on Leadership Styles and competence in relation to four elements: 20th century Leadership theory; team behavior; managerial behavior; and Leadership competence. It then looks at the literature on project management and discusses the research on the relationship between a project manager's Leadership Style and competence and project outcome and success. It then identifies and explains six points concerning the project manager Leadership Style and competence that researchers have most frequently explored. The paper concludes by detailing this review's findings and by suggesting ideas on this topic that researchers could further explore.
