Liberal Feminism Analysis Of Yoshimi Matsubara In Koji’s Suzuki “Dark Water” Short Story
2017Co-Authors: Liska Aulia FratamaAbstract:Title: Liberal Feminism Analysis of Yoshimi Matsubara in Koji Suzuki’s Dark Water Short Story This research is aimed to identify the cause of Liberal Feminism depicted in Dark Water by Koji Suzuki, and to describe the Yoshimi’s effort to be Liberal Feminism in a short story of Dark Water by Koji Suzuki. This research used the theory of Liberal Feminism by Rosemarie Tong. Then, the method used to analyze the data is qualitative. The result of this research stated that in a short story of Dark Water there are three forms of discrimination that experienced by the main character namely Yoshimi. The three forms of discrimination are mental discrimination, physical discrimination, and financial discrimination. Discrimination that experienced by Yoshimi finally made her to be Liberal Feminism in several ways. First, Yoshimi is trying to get a higher education. Secondly, Yoshimi has a job in a publishing company with a good position and good career path. Third, Yoshimi is trying to be a single mother who always protect and loves her daughter namely Ikuko. Snow White is a princess. When she is 7 years old, her parents were killed by Revena and Finn. After that she was kept the tower for 15 years and always got discrimination. She wanted to get her throne back. The pressures made her get spirit to get her rights. Finally she dared herself to fight against Revena and Finn. The role of Snow White as a woman to get her right in the movie becomes the inspiration and motivation to the writer. The writer uses many references to help in analyzing this research. Her positive concept of ‘ethical’ freedom does not correspond to Western Liberalism’s negative concept of freedom as the absence of constraints. Nor does her gender egalitarian concept of society resemble Western Liberalism’s model of society with its dichotomous organization of labor and care. It is argued that Western Feminism, as it was conceived by Beauvoir, can be elaborated substantially, as well as strategically, into an inclusive Feminism for a globalizing, yet culturally plural world.

Subversive Cooking in Liberal Feminism, 1963–1985
Gender and Food: From Production to Consumption and After, 2016Co-Authors: Stacy J WilliamsAbstract:Abstract Purpose This study examines Liberal second-wave feminists’ writings about cooking. Most scholarship of Liberal Feminism has focused on the attempts to integrate women into previously male-dominated public spaces such as higher education, the professions, and political office. Less attention has been paid to how these feminists politicized feminized spaces such as the home. A longstanding tension between the housewife role and feminist identities has led many to theorize that feminists avoid or resent domestic tasks. However, I argue that some Liberal feminists in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s suggested engaging with cooking in subversive ways that challenged patriarchal institutions and supported their political goals. Methodology/approach I analyze 148 articles about cooking in Ms. magazine between 1972 and 1985. I also analyze the copy and recipes within four community cookbooks published by Liberal feminist organizations. Findings I find that Liberal feminists suggested utilizing time- and labor-saving cooking methods, encouraged men to cook, and proposed that women make money from cooking. These three techniques challenged the traditional division of domestic labor, supported women’s involvement in the paid workplace, and increased women’s control of economic resources. Originality/value This study turns the opposition between Feminism and feminized tasks on its head, showing that rather than avoiding cooking, some Liberal feminists proposed ways of cooking that challenged patriarchal institutions. I show how subordinate populations can develop ways of subversively engaging with tasks that are typically seen as oppressive, using them in an attempt to advance their social position.

It leads the writer to conduct a study entiteled Discriminationon Women In Politic In Katja von Garnier’s Iron Jawed Angels movie. By analizing the movie with Liberal Feminism. The movies shows three discrminitaion on women in politic, domestic and double racism on african american women. And to get their right women suffragist make a silent picketing in the White House and a hunger strike in the jail. 19th Amendments was the conclusion of battle that includes many groups who went through supporting women suffrage. The 19th amendment has a profound effect on all women in the United States.The conclusions of this study are that a woman has to persistently struggle for her rights, including suffrage which is considered as starting rights influencing not only politics, but also social and economy. No matter on suffragist or suffragette tactics she committed, it would be good since the purpose is to improve women’s prosperity in society.
