We applied our approach to extract one valid pattern of the C standard Library from 500 C programs in Sourceforge.net using BLAST, and used the extracted pattern to detect an error in an open source project.

To address this problem, we propose to automatically extract software Library Usage patterns, which are one type of temporal specifications. Our approach uses a model checker to check a set of software Library Usage pattern candidates against existing programs using that Library, and identifies valid patterns based on model checking results. These valid patterns can help programmers learn about common software Library Usage. They can also be used to check new programs using the same Library. We applied our approach to C programs using the OpenSSL Library and the C standard Library, and extracted valid Usage patterns using BLAST. We also successfully used the extracted valid Usage patterns to detect an error in an open source project hosted by SourceForge.net.

International Conference on Software Engineering, 2000Co-Authors: Amir MichailAbstract:In this paper, we show how data mining can be used to discover Library reuse patterns in existing applications. Specifically, we consider the problem of discovering Library classes and member functions that are typically reused in combination by application classes. This paper improves upon our earlier research using “association rules” [8] by taking into account the inheritance hierarchy using “generalized association rules”. This turns out to be a non-trivial but worthwhile endeavor. By browsing generalized association rules, a developer can discover patterns in Library Usage in a way that takes into account inheritance relationships. For example, such a rule might tell us that application classes that inherit from a particular Library class often instantiate another class or one of its descendents . We illustrate the approach using our tool, CodeWeb, by demonstrating characteristic ways in which applications reuse classes in the KDE application framework.

Digital Library Usage during the Covid-19 Pandemic
DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska - Lincoln, 2021Co-Authors: Asimah, Amy Pascalia Abra Mrs., Oliver Edward Dzogbede, Selorm AkabaAbstract:Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyse the effectiveness of digital Library Usage, the hindrances faced, and the satisfaction derived by students during the period of COVID-19 when all universities were closed down in Ghana. Study design/methodology/approach: The researchers employed the survey method to collect data for analysis. Data collection was made with the use of semi-structured questionnaire displayed online for many respondents to access and respond. Based on the design employed, this study can be classified as quantitative. A total of 500 university students from the categories of undergraduate, masters, doctorate and others participated in the research. The data collected were analysed and frequencies determined. Findings: The results of the study showed that digital libraries were made available, well updated and maintained regularly by the Library staff of the various universities in Ghana. Students effectively used the Library systems and felt very much satisfied with the contents and quality of the resources available at the site as well as the flexibility of the system itself. Few challenges were encountered by students when using the system but these challenges did not have any substantial adverse effect on the Usage of the digital libraries. Limitation: Some university students could not access and respond to the online survey (questionnaire) due to poor internet connectivity in some parts of the country. Originality: The research contributes to Digital Library Management as it showed the challenges encountered and the satisfaction derived by students from the Usage of Digital Library during the COVID-19 pandemic
