  • Logical Interface based hnp change scheme for flow mobility in pmipv6 domains
The Journal of the Korean Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, 2012
Co-Authors: Yonggeun Hong, Kyjun Han, Joosang Youn
    Abstract:

Recently, wireless multi-networking technology has been studied for supporting multi-Interface in mobile node. As the related work, in the IETF NetExt WG, the extension of Proxy Mobile IPv6 protocol for supporting flow mobility is actively on going in discussion. PMIPv6 protocol supports simultaneous access through the multi-Interface in a mobile node and inter-technology handover between multiple Interfaces. However, this protocol can not support flow mobility. Thus, in this paper, when a mobile node connects to PMIPv6 domain through multi-Interface, as a way to support flow mobility, the design of Logical Interface and Home Network Prefix change scheme based on Logical Interface are proposed, We show that the proposed scheme can perform flow mobility service without end-to-end disconnection in PMIPv6 domain.

  • Analysis of the usage of a Logical Interface in PMIPv6
    2011
Co-Authors: Yonggeun Hong, Joosang Youn, Tchanghee Hyun
    Abstract:

A Logical Interface is used to hide the change of network Interface from the upper host IP layer and it also can be used for a multiple Interfaces mobile node in PMIPv6 domain. In a MN point of view, the link-layer identifier of a Logical Interface can use same link-layer identifier of physical Interface or a totally different link-layer identifier from them of physical Interface. And in a LMA point of view, a LMA may acknowledge each physical Interface or only a Logical Interface of a mobile node when a multiple Interfaces mobile node utilizes a Logical Interface. If a LMA assigns multiple home network prefixes to a multiple Interfaces mobile node with a Logical Interface, a Logical Interface has various usages of the multiple home network prefixes. As following general PMIPv6 operations described in RFC 5213, all multiple home network prefixes are shown to host IP layer. Also, the Logical Interface hides the existence of multiple home network prefixes and shows only one home network prefix to host IP layer. In this paper, we analyse various usages of a Logical Interface in a viewpoint of link-layer identifier and multiple home network prefixes and give some guidelines to implement.

  • Logical Interface support for ip hosts with multi access support
    RFC, 2016
    Co-Authors: Telemaco Melia, Sri Gundavelli
    Abstract:

A Logical Interface is a software semantic internal to the host operating system. This semantic is available in all popular operating systems and is used in various protocol implementations. Logical- Interface support is required on the mobile node attached to a Proxy Mobile IPv6 domain for leveraging various network-based mobility management features such as inter-technology handoffs, multihoming, and flow mobility support. This document explains the operational details of the Logical-Interface construct and the specifics on how link-layer implementations hide the physical Interfaces from the IP stack and from the network nodes on the attached access networks. Furthermore, this document identifies the applicability of this approach to various link-layer technologies and analyzes the issues around it when used in conjunction with various mobility management features.

  • Logical Interface (LIF) Implementation Guidelines
    2010
    Co-Authors: Juan-carlos Zúñiga, Telemaco Melia
    Abstract:

A Logical Interface is a software module internal to the host that is available in all popular operating systems. The use of this Logical Interface allows supporting different network-based mobility management solutions. In the NETEXT WG, work has been carried out to define ways in which a Logical Interface can help IP flow mobility (IFOM) for Proxy Mobile IPv6 [I-D.draft-ietf-netext-Logical- Interface-support]. The same Logical Interface construct can help other mobility management solutions like 3GPP GPRS Tunnelling Protocol (GTP), and it can add benefits to multi-access scenarios such as 3GPP Multi Access PDN Connectivity (MAPCON). This document provides guidelines for the implementation and configuration of a generic Logical Interface.

    Abstract:

A Logical Interface is a software semantic internal to the host operating system. This semantic is available in all popular operating systems and is used in various protocol implementations. • a soft Logical Interface pmipv6 based handover mechanism in vanets
    Global Communications Conference, 2019
Co-Authors: Livinus Tuyisenge, Marwane Ayaida, Samir Tohme, Lissaneddine Afilal
    Abstract:

Due to the high mobility and dynamic topology changes of vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) which generate scattered networks, the network's performance has become a critical issue for connected and autonomous vehicles deployment. In order to address this issue, the Heterogeneous Vehicular Networks (HVN) paradigm was designed and it consists in a hybridation of the vehicular network (IEEE 802.11p) and the cellular networks (3G/LTE/4G). This makes the vertical handover to be one of the key technologies for the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) deployment. In this paper, we proposed a vertical handover mechanism (PMIP-MIVH) which uses a Logical Interface and a Distributed PMIPv6 scheme in order to improve the handover performance. Numerical analysis shows that PMIP-MIVH performs well in terms of handover connection times, handover latency and session continuity, specifically in HVN.
