    By means of the established Information Management System for Chinese Materia Medica resources survey, the national, provincial and county level organization, personnel and the implementation of the program of Chinese Materia Medica resources survey, and the survey team of medicinal plant investigation, photos, Chinese herbal medicine market survey, the traditional Chinese Materia Medica resources knowledge survey, germplasm resources investigation and the data collation and summary specimen have been realised. Throughout the whole working process of the fourth national Chinese Materia Medica resources survey, it is ensured that all data were no missing, no repeat, and well stored and managed. The Information Management System can improve the standardization degree of Chinese Materia Medica resources survey, and maintain the continuity.

    Abstract:

    Based on the current shortage of genuine/false authentication and quality evaluation in the molecular identification, and the weak functional gene research in the establishment of two-dimensional molecular markering methods for Chinese Materia Medica, the authors proposed a new method, the bimolecular marking methods (BIMM) for Chinese Materia Medica, combining DNA marker and metabolomics marker, that could simultaneously research the species and quality differences at the molecular level at the present stage. The authors introduced the concept, principle, methods, and technical process of BIMM, and summarized the technical advantages in this paper. Meanwhile, the application of BIMM in the identification of multiple sources of Chinese Materia Medica, years-identification, different locations, elite germplasm research, discovery of new drugs resources, protection of new varieties was also discussed. As a supplement of two-dimensional molecular markering method for Chinese Materia Medica, BIMM would not only expand connotation of identification of Chinese Materia Medica but also provide another effective way for quality evaluating.

    Abstract:

    Based on the ecological and economic problems in Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) of Chinese Material Medica, we introduced the origin, concept, features and operative technology of eco-agriculture worldwide, emphasizing its modes on different biological levels of landscape, ecosystem, community, population, individual and gene in China. And on this basis, we analyzed the background and current situation of eco-agriculture of Chinese Materia Medica, and proposed its development ideas and key tasks, including: (1) Analysis and planning of the production pattern of Chinese Material Medica national wide. (2) Typical features extraction of regional agriculture of Chinese Materia Medica. (3) Investigation of the interaction and its mechanism between typical Chinese Materia Medica in each region and the micro-ecology of rhizosphere soil. (4) Study on technology of eco-agriculture of Chinese Materia Medica. (5) Extraction and solidification of eco-agriculture modes of Chinese Materia Medica. (6) Study on the theory of eco-agriculture of Chinese Materia Medica. Also we pointed out that GAP and eco-agriculture of Chinese Material Medica are both different and relative, but they are not contradictory with their own features. It is an irresistible trend to promote eco-agriculture in the GAP of Chinese Material Medica and coordinate ecological and economic development.

    Abstract:

    Bioactive natural products are the Material bases of Chinese Materia Medica resources. With successful applications of synthetic biology strategies to the researches and productions of taxol, artemisinin and tanshinone, etc, the potential ability of synthetic biology in the sustainable utilization of Chinese Materia Medica resources has been attracted by many researchers. This paper reviews the development of synthetic biology, the opportunities of sustainable utilization of Chinese Materia Medica resources, and the progress of synthetic biology applied to the researches of bioactive natural products. Furthermore, this paper also analyzes how to apply synthetic biology to sustainable utilization of Chinese Materia Medica resources and what the crucial factors are. Production of bioactive natural products with synthetic biology strategies will become a significant approach for the sustainable utilization of Chinese Materia Medica resources.

    The collection, summary and sharing of all kinds of survey data are one of the main tasks and achievements in the national census of Chinese Materia Medica resources organized and implemented by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a key link in the implementation of the national census of Chinese Materia Medica resources. Based on the client / server architecture, the data reporting system for Chinese Materia Medica resources survey has been established for reporting system application model of geospatial data service based on Web implementation, through the SOA framework, to achieve the data collection summary of the seven aspects of the local data configuration, data reporting, data verification, data reporting, PDA data import and export, APP data import, track instrument data import. The system services include the general investigation, the focus of investigation, specimen information, herbs sample information, market research, germplasm survey, traditional knowledge survey of these seven aspects of the 312 indicators of the report, serving the Chinese Materia Medica resource survey of field survey data collection and internal data collation. The system provides the technical support for the national census of Chinese Materia Medica resources, improves the efficiency of the census of Chinese Materia Medica resources, and is conducive to the long-term preservation of the data of Chinese Materia Medica resources census, the transformation and sharing of the results.

The establishment of the monitoring mechanism needs one organization and management agencies to supervise and guide monitoring work, one network system to gather data information, a group of people to perform monitoring work, a system of technical methods to assure monitoring work scientific and practical, a series of achievements and products to figure out the methods for solving problems, a group of monitoring index system to accumulate basic data, and a plenty of funds to keep normal operation of monitoring work.

  • Chinese Materia Medica resource images screening method study

    Abstract:

    Chinese Materia Medica resource survey provides an important basis for the development of traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) industry. During the Chinese Materia Medica resource survey process, millions of Materia Medica plant images are collected. The collected image dataset includes some images that are unqualified for image analysis, i.e. they can’t be used to build medicinal plant classifier model. It is a burdensome work to identify the unqualified Chinese Materia Medica resource images manually. How to screen the unqualified images automatically is an important task of Chinese Materia Medica resource survey. Image recognition techniques developed quickly in recent years. Outlier detection is a kind of unsupervised method to find the unqualified images automatically. Lots of research work has been done on the topic. Extracted features and correlation metric play important roles on the outlier image detection result. For improving the image screening performance, a novel outlier detection method is proposed in this paper. Convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to extract the complicated features of Chinese Materia Medica resource images. Extended entropy is introduced into the calculation of information loss that is used to measure the distance between images. Based on the extracted image features and correlation metric, a novel outlier detection method based on clustering is proposed here. The efficiency of the screening method is illustrated with a practical example.

    In this article,the concepts of Chinese Materia Medica and the Chinese Materia Medica resource are described in detail.An explanation is also presented about the several surveys on Chinese Materia Medica resource in China since 1949,and the contents and characteristics of the surveys are summarized.Finally,the further work in the coming resource survey is prospected clearly.
