METHODS The questionnaire and clinical examination were administered in 107 Class II patients and students, using the Helkimo index (Di and Ai). The differences in condylar position between CR and MI in all three spatial planes were measured using the Condyle Position Indication (CPI). RESULTS Di positively correlated with degree of CR-MI displacement in all five displacement (P < 0.05), while Ai positively correlated with degree of CR-MI displacement except horizontal displacement. Di and Ai significantly correlated with degree of CR-MI discrepancy in all five displacement (P < 0.05); With the increasing of Di and Ai rank, the degree of CR-MI displacement and CR-MI discrepancy increased. Also, symptoms of TMD were significantly correlated with the degree of CR-MI displacement and CR-MI discrepancy except horizontal displacement (P < 0.05). Severer CR-MI displacement and CR-MI discrepancy were observed in patients who had TMD symptoms. CONCLUSION In Class II patients, degree of CR-MI displacement is an important factor of TMD, and correlated with the severity of TMD.

The differences in condylar position between CR and MI in all three spatial planes were measured using the Panadent condylar position indication (CPI). RESULTS (1) The positive rate of CR-MI discrepancy was 92.50%(74 cases) in the group of Angle's Class II malocclusion and 10.00% (5 cases) in the group of normal occlusion(P< 0.001). 2)74.32% (55 cases) CR-MI discrepancy in 74 cases in the group of Angle's Class II pretreatment patients were coincidence discrepancy. (3)91.25% patients in the group of Angle's Class 11 malocclusion and 66.00% in the group of normal occlusion present occlusion interferences which located at the posterior teeth. CONCLUSION The results suggested that orthodontists should be aware of a high incidence of condylar displacement in Angle's Class ii pretreatment patients, and measure condylar displacement before the start of comprehensive orthodontic treatment to unmask real jaw relationships and avoid possible misdiagnoses.

To investigate the relationship between centric relation–Maximum Intercuspation (CR-MI) discrepancy and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) in pre-treated orthodontic patients. Material and methods. The study involved an experimental group of 107 pre-treated orthodontic patients with signs and symptoms of TMD aged 18–32 years, and a control group of 70 students with no signs and symptoms of TMD aged 20–30 years. The psychological condition of subjects was evaluated using two standard questionnaires, and a clinical examination performed to assess masticatory musculature and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function, and to establish the presence or absence of TMD. Helkimo indices, the anamnestic dysfunction index (Ai) and the clinical dysfunction index (Di), were determined. Occl.) and to analyze the related variables also compared and analyzed with electronic system T-scan III. Materials and Methods: A total of 54 subjects were divided into three groups; 17 subjects with fixed dentures, 14 with TMD and 23 controls-selection based on anamnesis-responded to a Fonseca questionnaire and clinical measurements analyzed with electronic system T-scan III. Occlusal force, presented by percentage (automatically by the T-scan electronic system) was analyzed in CR and in MIC. Results: Data were presented as mean ± standard deviation and differences in P P > 0.05 it was not significant in all three groups. Conclusion: In our study, it was concluded that there are not statistically significant differences between CR and MIC in the group of individuals without any symptom or sign of TMD although there are noticed in the group with TMD and fixed dentures disharmonic relation between the arches with overload of the occlusal force on the one side.

inlab and cerec connect virtual contacts in Maximum Intercuspation compared with original contacts an in vitro study

MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten pairs of maxillary and mandibular casts were mounted in articulators in Maximum intercuspal position. The contacts of the gypsum casts were marked and digital photographs of the mandibular casts were taken. Digital impressions of arches were made using two different software packages; inLab (Version 3.83) and Cerec Connect (Version 3.83) using the Cerec Acquisition Center. The intercuspal position of the teeth was captured by buccal images. Screenshots of the virtual casts showing the occlusal contacts were saved. The digital photographs of the contacts of the cast and the screenshots of the occlusal contacts were superimposed using an image processing program. The number of contacts of the virtual mandibular models that were identical with the contacts of the gypsum casts were determined and calculated as percentages in relation to the gypsum cast contacts, which were set as 100%. The null hypothesis tested was that the Cerec connect software delivers contacts that are closer to the real situation than contacts created with the inLab software. RESULTS Cerec Connect showed a median percentage of 41.6% and Inlab a median percentage of 31.9%. The Wilcoxon test revealed statistically significant differences between the inLab software and Cerec Connect. Especially at the contra-lateral side of that side where the virtual buccal registration was done, the contacts showed the greatest deviations from the original. CONCLUSION Cerec Connect more precisely virtually simulated the real contacts than did inLab when scanning full-arch dentitions.
