social Media Research
International Journal of Information Management, 2015Co-Authors: Eric W.t. Ngai, Karen K.l. MoonAbstract:In just one decade, social Media have revolutionized the life of many people and thus attracted much attention, not only from industry, but also academia. To understand how Researchers have adopted theories, used Research constructs, and developed conceptual frameworks in their studies, a systematic and structured literature review based on five leading online academic databases was conducted. A total of 46 articles on social Media Research were consolidated and analyzed, including empirical studies spanning from 2002 to 2011. A collection of theories/models and constructs/attributes adopted in these articles is summarized and tabulated for easy reference and comprehension of extant Research results. A causal-chain framework was developed based on the input-moderator-Mediator-output model to illustrate the causality between the Research constructs used and the conceptualization of theoretical models/theories proposed by previous Researchers. Because social Media cover a wide range of Research topics, the literature review may not be exhaustive. However, the proposed causal-chain framework and suggested Research directions may be regarded as representative references for future Research in the subject area. This is believed to be the first comprehensive literature review of social Media Research, and it contributes to a better understanding of the causes and effects of the adoption and usage of social Media.

Thematic framework of social Media Research: state of the art
Tourism Review, 2019Co-Authors: Xi Y. LeungAbstract:The unprecedented growth of social Media in the past decade has resulted in an increasing interest on social Media Research. The purpose of this study is to examine the state-of-the-art developments in social Media Research and to develop a thematic Research framework.,The study reviewed 262 social Media-related articles published in eight top hospitality and tourism journals between 2007 and 2017. Content analysis was used to code data from the selected articles, and correspondence analysis was then used to compare the characteristics of Research conducted on different social Media platforms.,A thematic framework of social Media Research was developed based on a thorough review and systematic examination of the articles. The thematic framework consisted of the three key players – hospitality and tourism businesses, social Media platforms and consumers – along with four categories of topical areas – marketing, managerial implication, user-generated content and impact – and 19 Research topics. Three platform groups were identified to share similar article characteristics and Research attributes.,This study offers a systematic overview of social Media Research in hospitality and tourism and is the first one to identify triadic relationships of social Media platforms in thematic Research framework. The innovative findings of correspondence analysis offer insights on future social Media Research from a platform perspective.

bibliometrics of social Media Research a co citation and co word analysis
International Journal of Hospitality Management, 2017Co-Authors: Xi Y. LeungAbstract:Abstract This study combined two bibliometric analysis methods to provide a systematic and holistic review of social Media-related academic literature. A total of 406 publications related to social Media between 2007 and 2016 were identified from 16 business and hospitality/tourism journals. Co-citation analysis identified Word-of-Mouth as the major theoretical foundation of social Media Research in business, while the hospitality/tourism field presented a diverse theoretical foundation. The study then employed co-word analysis to identify the evolution of Research themes over time in both fields. The comparison of social Media Research between the two fields highlighted four similarities, including the growth of Research over time, the term “social Media” gaining popularity, the new trend of social networking sites, and managerial applications as Research focus. Finally, the study called for a future Research agenda on social Media Research in the hospitality/tourism field.

Mapping government social Media Research and moving it forward: A framework and a Research agenda
Government Information Quarterly, 2017Co-Authors: Rony Medaglia, Lei ZhengAbstract:Abstract The growing phenomenon of government social Media requires better informed and more complex studies, but all beginning with a clearer understanding of the current Research. Drawing on a comprehensive review of government social Media literature in the e-government, the Information Systems (IS), and the public administration (PA) Research fields, we mapped government social Media Research into the six focus categories of context, user characteristics, user behavior, platform properties, management, and effects. Findings show that 1) Research focuses on government, rather than on users; 2) studies focusing on context, management, and users mostly focus on quantitative aspects; 3) the properties of social Media platforms are under-investigated; and 4) Research on the relationship between constructs of the government social Media phenomenon is under-investigated. Based on our analysis, we propose a framework to frame relationships between the six focus categories. We also identify a four-point Research agenda to move government social Media Research forward, from description to complex impact analysis.

Characterizing Government Social Media Research: Towards a Grounded Overview Model
2016 49th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), 2016Co-Authors: Rony Medaglia, Lei ZhengAbstract:As Research on government social Media continues to grow in quantity and scope, this area calls for mapping and systematization, in order to stimulate better-informed studies in the future. This paper draws on a comprehensive review of government social Media literature in the e-government and Information Systems (IS) fields to identify Research foci and gaps. We propose a Research-grounded model that identifies the foci on context, user characteristics, user behaviour, design, management, and effects, and highlight the investigated relationships among them. Based on this analysis, we identify a four-point Research agenda for future government social Media Research.

ethics of social Media Research common concerns and practical considerations
Cyberpsychology Behavior and Social Networking, 2013Co-Authors: Megan A Moreno, Natalie Goniu, Peter S Moreno, Douglas S DiekemaAbstract:Abstract Social Media Websites (SMWs) are increasingly popular Research tools. These sites provide new opportunities for Researchers, but raise new challenges for Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) that review these Research protocols. As of yet, there is little-to-no guidance regarding how an IRB should review the studies involving SMWs. The purpose of this article was to review the common risks inherent in social Media Research and consider how Researchers can consider these risks when writing Research protocols. We focused this article on three common Research approaches: observational Research, interactive Research, and survey/interview Research. Concomitant with these Research approaches, we gave particular attention to the issues pertinent to SMW Research, including privacy, consent, and confidentiality. After considering these challenges, we outlined key considerations for both Researchers and reviewers when creating or reviewing SMW IRB protocols. Our goal in this article was to provide a detailed...
