Oral Congenital Melanocytic Nevus: A Rare Case Report and Review of the Literature

Oral congenital Melanocytic nevi are rare, and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. The purpose of this study is to present the clinical, histological and immunohistochemical features of an oral congenital Melanocytic Nevus in a 16-year-old female with an 11-year follow-up and to review the pertinent literature. The reported case is the fifth well-documented case report of oral congenital Melanocytic Nevus in the English literature and the first with a long period of follow-up, thereby making it an important contribution to the knowledge regarding this uncommon oral mucosa lesion.

Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus Treated With Trametinib.

Park, Kathleen LudwigAbstract:Giant congenital nevi are Melanocytic proliferations of the skin that may be complicated by melanoma, neurocutaneous melanocytosis, pain, pruritus, and disfigurement. Current treatment options include surgical resection and medical management of associated symptoms. There is limited efficacy in these modalities. No effective pharmacologic treatments are available for the treatment of these lesions. We present the case of a 7-year-old girl with a giant congenital Melanocytic Nevus that had an AKAP9-BRAF fusion and was treated with trametinib, which resulted in rapid resolution of the patient's lifelong, intractable pain and pruritus as well as dramatic improvement in the extent of her Nevus.

Spinal arachnoid cyst containing Nevus cells in a patient with a large congenital Melanocytic Nevus: case report.

We experienced a rare case with a large congenital Melanocytic Nevus in which a spinal arachnoid cyst contained Nevus cells, suggesting the congenital nature of a spinal arachnoid cyst. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old Japanese man had been born with a large Melanocytic Nevus an his back. He experienced intermittent pain radiating to both thight and to the lower back and waist. A magnetic resonance imaging study disclosed the presence of a posterior intradural extrantedullary arachnoid cyst extending from T10 through T12. His spinal cord was displaced anteriorly and flattened. INTERVENTION: An osteoplastic laminoplasty was performed, and the arachnoid cyst was totally removed. The cyst membrane exhibited many foci of brown deposits, and histological examination disclosed the presence of melanin-containing cells in the cyst membrane. Morphologically and immunohistochemically, the melanin-containing cells to the cyst membrane were similar to Nevus cells in the dermis. CONCLUSION: The histological findings of our case suggest that the patient's spinal arachnoid cyst was formed at the same stage of development as the Melanocytic Nevus.

Desmoplastic Melanocytic Nevus of Oral Mucosa.

SchmidtAbstract:The desmoplastic Melanocytic Nevus is an uncommon variant that easily may be confused with a fibrohistiocytic neoplasm or a desmoplastic melanoma. It is believed that the following report describes the first known example of a desmoplastic Melanocytic Nevus arising in the oral mucosa. The histopathologic and immunohistochemical features that allow separation from other microscopically similar pathoses are stressed.
