Methods of Information in Medicine, 2000Co-Authors: Jing BaiAbstract:A telemedicine system model, based on a Message-Trigger service, is described. This model distributes system applications on multiple computers and establishes a communication platform to exchange Messages among all applications. By broadcasting event Messages, an application is able to Trigger a set of local and remote services. At the same time, a protocol for Message exchange is proposed to fulfill cooperation of applications. To validate the model, a teleconsultation system is designed. The results indicate that the model has good compatibility and that the characteristics are easy to implement.

Enabling such communication is challenging in areas where pedestrian density is high, since transmissions from all pedestrians could lead to high channel load, co-channel interference, and degraded communication performance. To understand these challenges, we first introduce a high-density pedestrian simulation scenario modeled after the Times Square neighborhood in New York City. We then evaluate the channel load in terms of Channel Busy Percentage (CBP) under several contextual safety Message Trigger policies and different transmission rates. The study uses the Network Simulator 3 (ns-3) with mobility traces generated from a calibrated Simulation of Urban MObility (SUMO) model. The results show that higher transmission rates (5Hz) for all pedestrians lead to high packet error rates, which raises questions about whether application performance requirements can be met at such rates. The results also show that context-aware Trigger policies can significantly reduce channel load and lower latency (inter-packet gaps).

two distinct destabilizing elements in the c fos Message Trigger deadenylation as a first step in rapid mrna decay
Genes & Development, 1991Co-Authors: Annbin Shyu, Joel G Belasco, Michael E GreenbergAbstract:The mechanisms by which c-fos mRNA is targeted for decay have been examined. Rapid removal of the poly(A) tail occurs before the transcribed portion of the c-fos Message is degraded. Identification of the determinants that mediate c-fos Message deadenylation reveals that they coincide directly with previously characterized determinants of c-fos mRNA instability, one in the protein-coding region and the other an AU-rich element (ARE) in the 3'-untranslated region. Insertion of either of these c-fos instability elements into the stable beta-globin Message confers the property of rapid deadenylation. Mutation of the ARE indicates that this sequence controls two steps in the process of c-fos mRNA degradation: removal of the poly(A) tail, which does not require intact AUUUA pentanucleotides within the ARE, and subsequent degradation of the transcribed portion of the Message, which appears to be dependent on the AUUUA pentanucleotides. These results indicate that structurally distinct instability determinants within the transcribed portion of labile Messages can function by promoting rapid removal of the poly(A) tail as a first step in the decay process.
