    Abstract:

    A single-feed dual-frequency Microstrip patch Antenna that can produce dual circular polarisations (CP) is presented. The Microstrip Antenna has an annular-ring patch and is excited by an L-shaped Microstrip line through the coupling of a ring slot in the ground plane. The occurrence of the dual CP is because the magnetic currents circulating along the ring slot at two specific frequencies have opposite flowing directions. Both simulated and measured results are provided to validate the CP performance of the proposed Antenna.

    Abstract:

    Design considerations and experimental results of a dual-band circularly polarized stacked Microstrip Antenna for GPS operations at 1227 and 1575 MHz are presented. The Antenna is achieved by stacking two corner-truncated square Microstrip patches. The obtained circular polarization (CP) bandwidths, determined from 3-dB axial ratio, are about 15 MHz (about 1.2%) and 17 MHz (about 1.1%) at 1227 and 1575 MHz, respectively. Good CP radiation patterns and Antenna gain have also been observed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Abstract:

    A novel compact circular-polarization (CP) operation of the square Microstrip Antenna with four slits and a pair of truncated corners is proposed and investigated. Experimental results show that the proposed compact CP design can have an Antenna-size reduction of about 36% as compared to the conventional corner-truncated square Microstrip Antenna at a given operating frequency. Also, the required size of the truncated corners for CP operation is much greater than that for the conventional CP design using a simple square Microstrip patch, providing a relaxed manufacturing tolerance for the proposed compact CP design. Details of the experimental results are presented and discussed.

    A novel design of square-ring Microstrip Antenna with a cross strip for achieving compact circular polarization (CP) operation is proposed and experimentally studied. The cross strip can be placed in the centerlines or diagonals of the square-ring patch. Either design can make its excited fundamental mode patch surface current path much longer than that in a conventional square Microstrip Antenna with same Antenna size. By incorporating a small tuning stub for splitting the fundamental mode into two near-degenerate resonant modes with equal amplitudes and 90/spl deg/ phase-difference compact CP operation for the proposed design can he obtained.

    Abstract:

    A novel circular polarization (CP) design of a single-feed equilateral-triangular Microstrip Antenna with enhanced Antenna gain is presented. This CP design is obtained by placing three triangular slots at properly locations below the equilateral-triangular radiating patch in the ground plane. By adjusting one of the triangular slot's side lengths slightly longer than that of the others, two orthogonal near-degenerate resonant modes for CP radiation can be excited. Measured Antenna gain in this study can easily be increased by 3.3 dBi (5.1 dBi versus 1.8 dBi), as compared to the same height, substrate material, operating frequency and radiating patch shape of a regular equilateral-triangular Microstrip Antenna without triangular slots in the ground plane. Prototype Antenna is fabricated for experimental evaluation. Simulated and measured results are presented.

    A novel technique for obtaining dual-band circular polarisation (CP) radiation of a single-feed circular Microstrip Antenna is proposed and demonstrated. By embedding two pairs of arc-shaped slots of proper lengths close to the boundary of a circular patch, and protruding one of the arc-shaped slots with a narrow slot, the circular Microstrip Antenna can perform dual-band CP radiation using a single probe feed. Details of the Antenna design and experimental results are presented.

    Abstract:

    A single-layer Microstrip Antenna for ultrawideband (UWB) applications, in which an array of rectangular Microstrip patches was arranged in the log-periodic way and proximity-coupled to the Microstrip feeding line, is presented. In order to reduce the number of Microstrip patches in the UWB log-periodic arrays, a large scale factor k = 1.1 was firstly reported and proved to be highly effective. Furthermore, instead of using an absorbing terminal loading, a novel loss-free compensating stub was proposed. Detailed parameters study was also presented for better understanding of the proposed Antennas. The impedance bandwidth (measured VSWR < 2.5) of an example Antenna with only 11 elements is from 2.26-6.85 GHz with a ratio of about 3.03:1. Both numerical and experimental results show that the proposed Antenna has stable directional radiation patterns, very low-profile and low fabrication cost, which are suitable for various broadband applications.

    Abstract Electrically and structurally effective Antenna structure is developed for the next generation of surface technology for communication, in which the structural surface itself becomes an Antenna. The basic design concept is a sandwich structure composed of composite laminates and Nomex honeycomb, with which Microstrip Antenna is integrated. Composite materials with high electrical loss must not reduce Antenna efficiency. Stacked-patch Microstrip Antenna is preferred for wideband performance. An open condition that defines a position of outer facesheet is exploited in order to allow an Antenna into the sandwich structure without loss of Antenna performances. Measured electrical performances of fabricated structure show that the gain is more improved than original Antenna and the bandwidth is as wide as specified in our requirements. With the open condition, wideband Antenna can be integrated with mechanical structures without reducing any electrical performances, as confirmed experimentally here.
