    Abstract:

    During the summer of 1939 the movements of 237 tagged bullfrogs, Rana catesbeiana Shaw, were studied at the Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve, at Rensselaerville, Albany County, New York. These frogs were marked by locking numbered Monel Metal tags around the dentary bone. The results were reported by Raney (1940). Other studies on the growth of these bullfrogs in nature have been reported by Raney and Ingram (1940 and 1941). Additional returns on 22 individuals recaptured by Ingram in the summer of 1940, and 12 records obtained by Dr. Jean Piatt during 1941 serve as a basis for these notes.

    The triammoniate of indium(III) chloride has been obtained as single crystals from the reaction of indium Metal and ammonium chloride in a sealed Monel Metal container. It crystallizes as a salt with [In(NH3)4Cl2]+ and [In(NH3)2Cl4]− ions, both of which lie on inversion centers.

    Derivatives of the Fluorite Type: [Fe(NH3)6][TaF6]2 and [Ni(NH3)6][TaF6]2 Light blue single crystals of [Fe(NH3)6][TaF6]2 and [Ni(NH3)6][TaF6]2 are obtained from 36 : 1 : 6 molar mixtures of (NH4)F, iron/nickel and tantalum powders, respectively, in sealed Monel Metal ampoules at 400 °C. They both crystallize isotypic with [Co(NH3)6][PF6]2 (cubic, Fm-3m, Z = 4, a = 1259.0(2)/1260.4(2) pm) in a structure that can be derived from the basic fluorite-type of structure according to [Ca][F]2≡[Fe(NH3)6][TaF6]2, for example.

    Einige Einkristalle von (NH4)4[Ni(TaF6)6] wurden neben (NH4)[TaF6] bei der Umsetzung von (NH4)F mit Tantal-Pulver in einer im Helium-Lichtbogen verschweisten Monel-Ampulle bei 400°C erhalten. Die Kristallstruktur (trigonal, R-3c (Nr. 167), Z = 6, a = 1723,0(2); c = 2166,6(21) pm; R1 = 0,0303, WR2 = 0,0609) enthalt das „superoktaedrische” Heteropolyanion [Ni(TaF6)6]4− neben (NH4)+-Ionen; sie kann als ein Derivat des K4CdCl6-Typs gemas (NH4)4[Ni(TaF6)6]K4[Cd(Cl)6] aufgefast werden.   • Nanocrystalline nickel and nickel-copper alloys: Synthesis, characterization, and thermal stability

    Pulsed electrodeposition is a simple, yet versatile method for the production of nanostructured Metals. For n -nickel we determine the influence of the physical and chemical deposition parameters on the nanostructure of the deposits and demonstrate that the grain size can be tuned to values between 13 and 93 nm, with rather narrow grain size distribution. The thermal stability of our n -nickel as studied by x-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis exhibits no detectable grain growth up to temperatures of about 380 K and an initial behavior at 503 K followed by a regime of anomalous grain growth. For nanocrystalline Ni 1- x Cu x (Monel-Metal ™ ) we demonstrate that alloy formation occurs at room temperature and that both chemical composition and grain size can be controlled by the pulse parameters and by appropriate organic additives.

    Abstract:

    Tritium release behavior from Flibe (Li 2 BeF 4 ) a potential liquid tritium breeding material was investigated. The main chemical form of tritium-containing species in Flibe was controlled to HT or TF by H 2 partial pressure and F - potential in an in-pile experimental system. The release rate coefficients of HT and HF, and HT / TF ratio in released tritium under various H 2 partial pressure were observed. The mechanism in chemistry change was considered by a model assuming an isotopic exchange reaction Increase of HT release rate was observed by the addition of Be Metal into Flibe. HT permeation rate coefficient through Monel Metal and SUS316 tubing wall contacting with Flibe were smaller by one order of magnitude than HT release rate coefficient.

    Abstract:

    Abstract Tritium permeation through Monel Metal and SUS316 contacting with Flibe (Li 2 BeF 4 ) a potential liquid tritium breeding material was investigated by in-situ tritium release experiment. The permeation rate from Flibe was much larger for HT than that for T + . The overall mass transfer coefficient of HT permeation from Flibe, K 2 , was 10–50 times smaller than that of HT release from Flibe to the gas phase, K 1 . The activation energy of K 2 was larger than that of K 1 . The rate-determining process of tritium permeation is considered not to be HT diffusion in the Flibe liquid film, but to be the HT migration from Flibe surface to Metal surface, where oxides formed by the impurity in Flibe may accumulate as a tritium permeation barrier.
