Sensor for energy determination of nanosecond pulses of ultraviolet radiation

LubianAbstract:A sensor for energy determination of nanosecond pulses of ultraviolet radiation is presented. The sensor is based on the combination of a large area silicon photodiode and a fluorescing colored glass, which converts the ultraviolet radiation into visible. The selected glass shows a high stability and a long-lasting fluorescence. Such characteristics allowed the construction of a small robust sensor, which measures energy of nanosecond pulses of ultraviolet radiation by signal amplitude analysis. The main feature of this sensor is that its calibration does not depend on the pulse shape as long as its duration lies in the nanosecond interval. This sensor is particularly suitable for pulse energy determination of small Nitrogen Lasers.
