A combined application of acoustic rhinometry, rhinoresistometry, and flow simulation of the Nose mucosa before and after turbinate surgery: a model study.

In order to follow rhinometric assessments precisely, the knowledge of the Nose Airflow mechanisms is necessary. In this direction, in a model study the consequences of nasal concha surgery on acoustic rhinometry and rhinoresistometry were systematically investigated. Six Nose models were examined through acoustic rhinometry and rhinoresistometry approaches. Each model reflected conditions happened after the nasal concha surgery. All models were also rinsed with the water while the flow outputs were visualized for the checking. The normal Nose was represented an even flow distribution over the entire nasal cavity. After the nasal concha resection, a deviant flow course and a significant grow in turbulence activity were seen. A flow resistance dropped in addition considerably. In the model with general lateral wall hyperplasia, a restriction of the inferior and even of the middle nasal concha led to the beneficial functional results. The models demonstrated a positive correlation between the flow data and acoustic rhinometry and rhinoresistometry measures. Both methods complement each other in the diagnostic outcome of the Nose functioning.

Quality of life in non-smokers and smokers before and after septoplasty and septorinoplasty

Septoplastika i septorinoplastika ubrajaju se među najčešće izvođene operacije kojima se bolesnici podvrgavaju bilo zbog nosne opstrukcije ili zbog estetskih razloga. NACRT STUDIJE: presječna studija ISPITANICI I METODE: Istraživanje je provedeno na Klinici za otorinolaringologiju i kirurgiju glave i vrata Kliničkog bolničkog centra Osijek (KBCO) od siječnja 2018. do lipnja 2018. godine. Uključeno je 26 bolesnika koji su podjeljeni u skupinu od 14 nepušača i skupinu od 12 pušača. Svima je dijagnosticirana deformacija nosnog septuma i predviđeni su za operativni zahvat. Za podatke o ukupnom nosnom otporu i protoku korištena je kompjutorizirana rinomanometrija, a subjektivna procjena težine simptoma dobivena je pomoću SNOT 22 upitnika. REZULTATI: Podatci dobiveni korištenjem SNOT 22 upitnika su pokazali smanjenje težine simptoma nakon operacije. Rinomanometrija je pokazala značajno poboljšanje protoka zraka kroz nos i smanjenje otpora nakon septoplastike i septorinoplastike. Nije pronađena statistički značajna razlika u pojavnosti i težini 22 ponuđena simptoma niti u vrijednostima ukupnog otpora i protoka zraka, između skupine nepušača i pušača. ZAKLJUČAK: Septoplastika i septorinoplastika poboljšavaju kvalitetu života bez značajne razlike između nepušača i pušača.OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of smoking before and after septoplasty and septorinoplasty on the increasingly important quality of life (Qol). Septoplasty and septorinoplasty are among the most commonly performed surgeries for patients with nasal obstruction but are also performed for aesthetic reasons. STUDY DESIGN: cross-sectional study PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: The research was conducted at the Clinic for otorhinolaryngology and surgery of the head and neck of the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek (CHCO), from January 2018 to June 2018. 26 patients were included, and two groups were formed: a group of 14 non-smokers and a group of 12 smokers. All of the patients were diagNosed with nasal septum deformity and underwent septoplasty and septorinoplasty. Computerized rhinomanometry was used for obtaining the data on total nasal resistance and flow, and a subjective assessment of the severity of symptoms was obtained using SNOT 22. RESULTS: Data obtained using SNOT 22 showed a reduction in the severity of symptoms after the surgery. Rhinomanometry has shown a significant improvement in the Nose Airflow and a reduction in nasal resistance after septoplasty and septorinoplasty. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence and severity of 22 offered symptoms, or in values of overall resistance and air flow, between the non-smoker group and the smoker group. CONCLUSION: Septoplasty and septorinoplasty are improving the quality of life without the significant difference between non-smokers and smokers

COLD MODEL TESTS OF A NEW TECHNIQUE ON ELIMINATING RESIDUAL ROTATION AT FURNACE OUTLET OF TANGENTIAL FIRING SYSTEM
2002Co-Authors: Zhu ZhenAbstract:In this paper,a new method,installing a kind of cross heating surface at furnace outlet of tangential firing system,has been presented to eliminate residual rotation and further to decrease the velocity deviation and thermal deviation at horizontal gas pass.A 1∶13.9 scale model experimental rig has been set up based on a 300MW utility boiler. Model furnace cross section is 1009mm×846mm,and model furnace height is 2146mm.The top end of model device is fixed at the lower end of model boiler "Nose".Airflow velocity characteristics and the residual rotation can be measured by using a thermal electric speedometer and a five hole probe. Cold model tests about Airflow velocity distribution and resistance characteristics in furnace and at horizontal gas pass have been carried out,when model devices are installed with the height of 0cm,5cm,10cm and 15cm. Results show that the cross device with a reasonable height is good for eliminating residual rotation and velocity deviation,has a less Airflow resistance and takes no effect on furnace aerodynamics.
