In addition to the S 2p signal normally associated with thiolate bond formation, a high binding energy S 2p signal was observed and is assigned to a sulfonic acid moiety. This is the first such report of sulfonic acid formation in Disulfide systems and is quite similar to the process occurring on copper and silver surfaces for n-alkane thiols. The angle dependent intensities of the C 1s, S 2p and Ag 3d core levels were used to make a quantitative estimate of the surface composition and thus obtain information on the molecular orientation. The molecule was oriented almost normal to the silver/platinum alloy surface with the sulfonic acid moiety being closer to the monolayer-air interface than the thiolate sulfur which was very close to the alloy surface. This is explained as arising due to steric effects associated with the larger sulfonic acid group.

It has been found that the spectral qualities are inversely proportional to the concentration of the applied solutions. Excellent SERS spectral enhancement and perpendicular orientation could be achieved for the sample adsorbed from a 0.0001M solution rather than that from a 0.001M solution, This phenomenon was termed as the “dilution effect” on SERS spectra.

A dye sensitized solar cell using natural counter electrode and natural dye derived from mangosteen peel waste

We are interested in using these residues as components of a dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC). Carbonized mangosteen peel was used with mangosteen peel dye as a natural counter electrode and a natural photosensitizer, respectively. A distinctive mesoporous honeycomb-like carbon structure with a rough nanoscale surface was found in carbonized mangosteen peels. The efficiency of a dye sensitized solar cell using carbonized mangosteen peel was compared to that of DSSCs with Pt and PEDOT-PSS counter electrodes. The highest solar conversion efficiency (2.63%) was obtained when using carbonized mangosteen peel and an Organic Disulfide/thiolate (T_2/T^−) electrolyte.

biodegradation of the Organic Disulfide 4 4 dithiodibutyric acid by rhodococcus spp
Applied and Environmental Microbiology, 2015Co-Authors: Heba Khairy, Jan Hendrik Wubbeler, Alexander SteinbuchelAbstract:Four Rhodococcus spp. exhibited the ability to use 4,4'-dithiodibutyric acid (DTDB) as a sole carbon source for growth. The most important step for the production of a novel polythioester (PTE) using DTDB as a precursor substrate is the initial cleavage of DTDB. Thus, identification of the enzyme responsible for this step was mandatory. Because Rhodococcus erythropolis strain MI2 serves as a model organism for elucidation of the biodegradation of DTDB, it was used to identify the genes encoding the enzymes involved in DTDB utilization. To identify these genes, transposon mutagenesis of R. erythropolis MI2 was carried out using transposon pTNR-TA. Among 3,261 mutants screened, 8 showed no growth with DTDB as the sole carbon source. In five mutants, the insertion locus was mapped either within a gene coding for a polysaccharide deacetyltransferase, a putative ATPase, or an acetyl coenzyme A transferase, 1 bp upstream of a gene coding for a putative methylase, or 176 bp downstream of a gene coding for a putative kinase. In another mutant, the insertion was localized between genes encoding a putative transcriptional regulator of the TetR family (noxR) and an NADH:flavin oxidoreductase (nox). Moreover, in two other mutants, the insertion loci were mapped within a gene encoding a hypothetical protein in the vicinity of noxR and nox. The interruption mutant generated, R. erythropolis MI2 noxΩtsr, was unable to grow with DTDB as the sole carbon source. Subsequently, nox was overexpressed and purified, and its activity with DTDB was measured. The specific enzyme activity of Nox amounted to 1.2 ± 0.15 U/mg. Therefore, we propose that Nox is responsible for the initial cleavage of DTDB into 2 molecules of 4-mercaptobutyric acid (4MB).

tetrathiobacter mimigardefordensis sp nov isolated from compost a betaproteobacterium capable of utilizing the Organic Disulfide 3 3 dithiodipropionic acid

Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain DPN7T revealed 98.5 % similarity to that of Tetrathiobacter kashmirensis LMG 22695T. Values for sequence similarity to members of the genera Alcaligenes, Castellaniella and Taylorella, the nearest neighbours of the genus Tetrathiobacter, were about 95 % or less. The DNA G+C content of strain DPN7T was 55.1 mol%. The level of DNA–DNA hybridization between strain DPN7T and T. kashmirensis LMG 22695T was 41 %, whereas it was much lower between strain DPN7T and Alcaligenes faecalis LMG 1229T (7 %) or Castellaniella defragrans LMG 18538T (5 %). This genotypic divergence was supported by differences in biochemical and chemotaxonomic characteristics. For this reason, and because of the differences in the protein and fatty acid profiles, strain DPN7T should be classified within a novel species of Tetrathiobacter, for which the name Tetrathiobacter mimigardefordensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is strain DPN7T (=DSM 17166T=LMG 22922T).
