  • transformational leadership influence on Organizational Performance through Organizational learning and innovation
    Journal of Business Research, 2012
Co-Authors: Victor J Garciamorales, Maria Magdalena Jimenezbarrionuevo, Leopoldo J Gutierrezgutierrez
    Abstract:

This study analyzes the influences of transformational leadership on Organizational Performance through the dynamic capabilities of Organizational learning and innovation. Although these indirect interrelations are very important for improving Organizational Performance, previous research has not usually explored them. The study confirms these influences empirically, basing the analysis on a sample of 168 Spanish firms. The results reveal that (1) transformational leadership influences Organizational Performance positively through Organizational learning and innovation; (2) Organizational learning influences Organizational Performance positively, both directly and indirectly through Organizational innovation; (3) Organizational innovation influences Organizational Performance positively.

  • Knowledge management and Organizational Performance: A decomposed view
    Journal of Knowledge Management, 2011
    Co-Authors: Annette M. Mills, Trevor A. Smith
    Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of specific knowledge management resources (i.e. knowledge management enablers and processes) on Organizational Performance. Design/methodology/approach – The study uses survey data from 189 managers and structural equation modeling to assess the links between specific knowledge management resources and Organizational Performance. Findings – The results show that some knowledge resources (e.g. Organizational structure, knowledge application) are directly related to Organizational Performance, while others (e.g. technology, knowledge conversion), though important preconditions for knowledge management, are not directly related to Organizational Performance. Research limitations/implications – The survey findings were based on a single dataset, so the same observations may not apply to other settings. The survey also did not provide in-depth insight into the key capabilities of individual firms and the circumstances under which some resources are directly related to Organizational Performance. Practical implications – The study provides evidence linking particular knowledge resources to Organizational Performance. Such insights can help firms better target their investments and enhance the success of their knowledge management initiatives. Originality/value – Prior research often utilizes composite measures when examining the knowledge management-Organizational Performance link. This bundling of the dimensions of knowledge management allows managers and researchers to focus on main effects but leaves little room for understanding how particular resources relate to Organizational Performance. This study addresses this gap by assessing the links between specific knowledge management resources and Organizational Performance. The results show that some resources are directly related to Organizational Performance, while others are not.

  • Publicness and Organizational Performance
Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, 2011
Co-Authors: Richard M Walker, Barry Bozeman
    Abstract:

The article focuses on the issue of publicness and Organizational Performance. Publicness is visualized as the influences of political authority, as Organizational ownership or as the relationship between the two. The perpetual interest in publicness and in comparing public and private sectors within the public administration discipline with the early inklings of change on the publicness horizon. The characteristics of management may vary across sectors such as strategies, structures, processes and values, and functions like finance and human resources management.

  • strategy content and Organizational Performance an empirical analysis
    Public Administration Review, 2006
Co-Authors: Rhys William Andrews, George Alexander Boyne, Richard M Walker
    Abstract:

This study presents the first empirical test of the proposition that strategy content is a key determinant of Organizational Performance in the public sector. Strategy content comprises two dimensions: strategic stance (the extent to which an organization is a prospector, defender, or reactor) and strategic actions (the relative emphasis on changes in markets, services, revenues, external relationships, and internal characteristics). Data were drawn from a multiple-informant survey of 119 English local authorities. Measures of strategy content are included in a multivariate model of interauthority variations in Performance. The statistical results show that strategy content matters. Organizational Performance is positively associated with a prospector stance and negatively with a reactor stance. Furthermore, local authorities that seek new markets for their services are more likely to perform well. These results suggest that measures of strategy content must be included in valid theoretical and empirical models of Organizational Performance in the public sector.
