Effect of alpha4beta2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonists and antagonists on learning in female rats during different phases of Ovary Cycle
Fiziolohichnyĭ zhurnal, 2014Co-Authors: Fedotova IuoAbstract:Abstract The present work was devoted to the comparative analysis of alpha4beta2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in learning/ memory processes during Ovary Cycle assessed in adult female rats. RJR-2403 (1.0 mg/kg, i.p.), alpha4beta2 nAChRs agonist and mecamylamine (1.0 mg/kg, i.p.), alpha4beta2 nAChRs antagonist were injected chronically during 14 days. The processes of learning/memory were assessed in different models of learning: passive avoidance performance and Morris water maze. Chronic RJR-2403 administration to female rats improved the passive avoidance performance in proestrous and estrous as compared to the control animals. Also, RJR-2403 restored spatial learning during proestrous phases in Morris water maze, and stimulated the dynamics of spatial learning during estrous phases. On the contrary, chronic mecamylamine administration impaired non-spatial, and especially, spatial learning in females during key phases of Ovary Cycle. The results of the study suggest positive effect of alpha4beta2 nAChRs stimulation in learning/ memory processes during Ovary Cycle in the adult female rats.

Influence of stimulation and blockade of α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on learning of female rats in basic phases of Ovary Cycle

Characterization of depression-like behavior in prenatally stressed female rats during Ovary Cycle

Sechenova, 2012Co-Authors: Fedotova IuoAbstract:The aim of the present work was a comparative analysis of dynamics of depression-like behavior in prenatally stressed and non-prenatally stressed female rats in the key phases of the Ovary Cycle. It was found that non-stressed female rats demonstrated high level of depression-like behavior in proestrous phase as compared to the diestrous phase, whereas these rats showed low level of depression-like behavior in estrous phase in Porsolt's test. On the contrary, there were no significant differences in extent of depression-like behavior between prenatally stressed rats in the diestrous and proestrous, although in the phase of estrous in these animals an increase in level of depression-like behavior was noted. Thus, the results of this study indicated pronounced effects of prenatal stress on the character of depression-like behavior of females in different phases of Ovary Cycle. This study revealed leveling and reversed action of prenatal stress on depression-like behavior in key phases of sexual Cycle in female rats.

Stimulation of D2-receptors improves passive avoidance learning in female rats

Quinperole (0,1 mg/kg, i.p.), D2-receptor agonist and sulpiride (10,0 mg/kg, i.p.), D2-receptor antagonist were injected chronically to adult female rats. Learning of these animals was assessed in different models: passive avoidance performance and Morris water maze. Chronic quinperole administration to females resulted in the appearance of the passive avoidance performance in proestrous and estrous, as distinct from the control animals. Also, quinperole improved spatial learning in proestrous and stimulated it in estrous in Morris water maze. Chronic sulpiride administration similarly impaired non-spatial and spatial learning in females during all phases of Ovary Cycle. The results of the study suggest modulating role of D2-receptors in learning/memory processes during Ovary Cycle in the adult female rats.

Participation of D(1)-receptors in anxiety-depression-like behaviour in female rats for Ovary Cycle
Patologicheskaia fiziologiia i eksperimental'naia terapiia, 2010Co-Authors: Fedotova IuoAbstract:The present work was devoted to the comparative analysis of influence of chronic administration of D(1)-receptors agonist - SKF-38393 (0,1 mg/kg, i.p.) and D1-receptors antagonist - SCH-23390 (0,1 mg/kg, i.p.) for 14 days on anxiety and depressive-like behavior in the adult female rats. Model of depression in rats was carried out in Porsolt test. Anxiety level was assessed in the elevated plus maze. It was established that SCH-23390 rendered antidepressive and anxiolytic effects in females during estrous and proestrous. SKF-38393 resulted in prodepressive effect in estrous and proestrous. Also, it was noted definite modulation of anxiety behavior in connection of Ovary Cycle phases in rats treated with SKF-38393: at increased level of estrogens was anxiolytic effect while at reduced level of estrogen - anxiogenic effect. It is suggested different extent of D1-receptors receptors involvement in the mechanisms of anxiety-depressive-like behavior at alterations of hormonal balance during Ovary Cycle.

It was established that chronic ketanserine administration rendered antidepressive and anxiolytic effects in females during estrous and proestrous. M-CPP administration also resulted in antidepressive effect in estrous and proestrous. Also, it was noted definite modulation of anxiety behavior in connection of Ovary Cycle phases in rats treated with m-CPP: at increased level of estrogens was anxiolytic effect while at reduced level of estrogen - anxiogenic effect. It is suggested the involvement of different subtypes of 5-HT receptors in the mechanisms of anxiety-depressive-like behavior at alterations of hormonal balance during Ovary Cycle. The data obtained indicate a close interaction between the Ovary hormonal and serotonergic systems of the brain in the mechanisms of anxiety and depression.

Learning of these animals was assessed in different models: passive avoidance performance and Morris water maze. Chronic NAN-190 administration to females resulted in the appearance of the passive avoidance performance in proestrous and estrous, as distinct from the control animals, but failed to change the dynamics of spatial learning in Morris water maze. Chronic 8-OH-DPAT administration similarly impaired non-spatial and spatial learning in females during all phases of Ovary Cycle. The results of the study suggest modulating role of 5-HT(1A) receptors in learning/memory processes during Ovary Cycle in the adult female rats.
