  • Investigation of Ozone Cracking on Natural Rubber
    Journal of Rubber Research, 2018
    Co-Authors: Shahru Kamaruddin, A.h. Muhr
    Abstract:

Typically, Cracking can be observed on the rubber surface when it is stretched and exposed to the Ozone. Ozone-induced stress Cracking is considered a problem as it contributes to diminishing the appearance and serviceability of rubber products. Ozone concentration form cracks which cause potential failure in the rubber. This study investigates the influence of Ozone exposure and discusses most of the effects resulting from the Ozone attack. Water serves a barrier and protects rubber from the Ozone attack. Many cracks formed on the rubber surface at a high strain compared to that of a low strain. The distribution of crack lengths represents a complex function of time and strain. The chemical reaction of Ozone proceeds in the absence of strain which results in a shiny appearance and is tacky due to uniform occurrence of ozonolysis on the rubber surface.

  • Ozone Cracking and flex Cracking of crosslinked polymer blend compounds
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2007
    Co-Authors: Mun Fu Tse
    Abstract:

Ozone Cracking and flex Cracking of crosslinked elastomer blends of brominated isobutylene/para-methylstyrene copolymer (BIMSM) and unsaturated elastomers, such as polybutadiene rubber (BR) and natural rubber (NR), are studied. This saturated BIMSM elastomer, which is a terpolymer of isobutylene, para-bromomethylstyrene, and para-methylstyrene, functions as the Ozone-inert phase of the blend. Ozone Cracking is measured by the failure time of a tapered specimen under a fixed load in a high severity Ozone oven, whereas flex Cracking is ranked by the De Mattia cut growth. The Ozone resistance of BIMSM/BR/NR blends is compared to that of a BR/NR blend (with or without antiozonant) at constant strain energy densities. The effects of the BIMSM content in the blend, the structural variations of BIMSM, and the network chain length between crosslinks on these two failure properties, which are important in crosslinked compounds for applications in tire sidewalls, are discussed. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. • the design and optimization of resistance to Ozone Cracking tester observation device
Research and Exploration in Laboratory, 2014
    Co-Authors: X U Yunhu
    Abstract:

The design and optimization of rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic existance to Ozone Cracking tester observation device is considered in this paper,The design and optimization include observation lamp, observation mirror and retro-reflector. The device solves the problem that observation of Ozone crack sample rexistance to Ozone Cracking tester doesn 't stop state, and greatly improves the accuracy and comprehensive of the results of the Ozone crack observation. It also solves the problem of operation inconvenience in the Ozone crack test.
