In English, English and French abstracts.A new species of Pandanus Parkinson (Pandanaceae) endemic to Madagascar is described as Pandanus kalobinonensis Callm., Razakamal. & Luino and illustrations are provided. The new species is restricted to the north-western lowland moist evergreen forests of the Kalobinono massif. Pandanus kalobinonensis can easily be morphologically distinguished from other members of the genus by its small solitary globose syncarp borne on a short peduncle, monocarpellate drupes, and single spiniform stigma with an adaxial stigmatic groove. Despite the occurrence of both collections within limits of the newly designated Galoko-Kalobonino Protected Area, the new species is preliminary assessed as “Endangered” [EN] using the IUCN Red List Criteria.

A new species and a new synonym in Pandanus subg. Rykia (Pandanaceae) in Thailand

Most species belong to the taxonomically challenging Pandanus subg. Rykia (Vrise) B.C. Stone. Recent field observations coupled with a review of herbarium material of Thai Pandanaceae (serving as a backbone for the forthcoming family treatment for the Flora of Thailand) have revealed new findings enabling better understanding the taxonomy of Pandanus species in this region. In this article, we formally synonymize Pandanus bifidus H. St. John under Pandanus obconicus H. St. John, two species among the fifteen that Harold St. John described from Thailand in 1963 and 1965. We also describe a new species, Pandanus voradolii Callm. & Buerki, restricted to north-eastern Thailand. The new species resembles Pandanus obconicus in its acaulescent low shrub habit, but differs in its ecology, shape and texture of its leaves, the length of its peduncle and shape and dimensions of its syncarp. Field photographs and a preliminary risk of extinction assessment is provided for the new species.Received: March 3, 2018. Accepted: April 19, 2018. First published online: June 25, 2018.

These possess few phalanges (6–7) that are incompletely united (with up to 38 carpels) with each of these carpels bearing an erect to curved, acute, thorny stigma. Pandanus tsingycola seems to be endemic to the limestone “tsingy” formation of Beanka.

Notes on New Caledonian Pandanaceae: Identity and Typifications of Pandanus Decumbens (Brongn.) Solms and Pandanus Reticulatus Vieill., with the New Species Pandanus Letocartiorum Callm. & Buerki

Solms, Pandanus neocaledonicus Martelli and Pandanus reticulatus Viell. After careful examination of the relevant collections and the rediscovery of the fragmentary type of Pandanus neocaledonicus, the latter is now considered to be a synonym of Pandanus decumbens. A new species is described, Pandanus letocartiorum Callm. & Buerki, which is characterized by its habit, drupes and stigmas. The two accepted species and the new species are described in detail and their taxonomic affinities are discussed. Jano-edwardsAbstract:Extremely high levels of manganese (Mn) were encountered in foliar tissue of the monocot tree Pandanus tectorius from southern Guam with values exceeding 10,000 microg/g dry weight in some wetland representatives. Historically, dried Pandanus leaves were used extensively as a source of domestic fiber in the local Chamorro culture. A possible link between the use of this plant and a neurodegenerative disease complex that once plagued the island and is symptomatically similar to the occupational disease "manganism" poses an intriguing question that merits further investigation.

Pandan samak which has several different local names is the cultivated ones.This species is well known as handycraft from Tasikmalaya and had been exported to other countries. Incomes from the handycraft products is the second biggest source after agricultural sector.

The people recognise two entities of Pandanus/screwpine as two different taxa, the “pandan samak†and “pandan lautâ€. Both are identified here as belonging to P. odoratissimus. The two taxa are regarded closely related, in which the “pandan laut†is believed to be the wild type of the domesticated “pandan samakâ€. Its cultivated in Ciundil. Although P. furcatus Roxburgh and P. dubius Sprengel are also recognised, neither is used as source of mats.Key words: ethnobotany, pandan, Pandanus odoratissimus L.f., Ujung Kulon
