    Abstract:

    Part-Time tertiary education at both undergraduate and graduate levels are becoming more and more popular. In pursuing Part-Time Studies, students must use their own limited and valuable non-work hours at the cost of giving up other commitments to their family and social lives. Part-Time study is considered to be a very effective indicator of employees’ drive for personal development. A research was conducted in October 2000 to study the mechanism linking work, family and Part-Time tertiary education, with a [view] to clarifying the issue and recommending means to manage the conflict among roles in these three domains. About 500 postgraduate and undergraduate Part-Time university students (who had full-time jobs) in Hong Kong were surveyed. The results of the study suggest that the support of employers and families has a certain statistically significant relationship with the perceived job performance and satisfaction in family and work lives of employees pursuing Part-Time tertiary education. However, it was observed that academic performance of employees’ Part-Time study actually had no statistically significant correlation with any of the independent and mediating variables that were analysed in the study.

    This study aims to provide an analysis of the Bachelor programmes, other than the full-time ones, offered by the Romanian universities. The following aspects have been taken into consideration: the number of admission places, the distribution of these places by field of education and the availability of e-learning facilities. Research method: By investigating the websites of the universities, we wanted to determine the existence, at the beginning of the academic year 2012-2013, of the e-learning platforms or online portals available for students attending distance or Part-Time programmes. Results and conclusions: The study has revealed that not all universities are paying enough attention to the implementation of e-learning solutions for distance or Part-Time programmes. Some improvement is still needed in the distance learning offer, especially by diversifying the study programmes in order to be suited to the fields of activity required on the labour market.

    There is increasing interest in PhD Studies, also referred to as 3rd level Studies. PhD Studies for employees in the IT sector should be mostly focused on strategic fields, advances in software engineering, and software system engineering, however IT architecture should also be an important part of these programs. This evaluation of PhD programs is concerned with their width, depth, quality, and value to the IT industry. It is important to distinguish domain and non-domain characteristics when designing PhD Studies. This paper is concerned with establishing a Part-Time doctoral program in computer science in the context of cooperation with the IT industry. The results of analysis and evaluation of Part-Time Studies are described.
