Celle-ci pourrait etre amelioree par l’utilisation des huiles essentielles (HE). L’objectif de ce travail est donc de contribuer a l’amelioration des connaissances sur la valorisation des huiles essentielles (HE) dans l’alimentation des ruminants. Cet essai portant sur l’effet de l’huile essentielle (HE) des rhizomes de Zingiber officinale sur les parametres de digestibilite in vitro du foin de Pennisetum Clandestinum a ete mene au Laboratoire de Production et Nutrition Animales (LAPRONAN), de l’Universite de Dschang. L’huile essentielle a ete extraite des rhizomes de Zingiber officinale par La technique d’hydrodistillation. La ration etait constituee de Pennisetum Clandestinum (70%) et Bidens pilosa (30%). Trois doses (0, 40 et 80 μl) de l’huile essentielle ont ete utilisees lors de l’incubation des differentes rations. Les resultats de cette etude ont montre que l’ajout de 40 ou 80 μl d’huiles essentielles n’a eu aucun effet significatif sur le volume de gaz produit (GP) apres 24 h d’incubation, l’energie metabolisable (EM), la production d’acide gras volatils (AGV) et la digestibilite de la matiere organique (DIVMO). Par contre, la digestibilite de la matiere seche (DIVMS), la masse microbienne (MM) et l’azote residuel (NDF-N) ont significativement (p˂0,05) baisse avec le niveau croissant d’incorporation d’huile essentielle. La quantite de matiere organique fermentee pour produire 1ml de gaz (FC) des rations contenant 40 (4,4 mg/ml) ou 80 μl (4,41 mg/ml) d’huiles essentielles a ete comparable (P˃0,05) mais significativement (P˂0,05) plus eleves que celle de la ration sans huile essentielle (2,44 mg/ml). De maniere generale, l’incorporation de l’huile essentielle de Zingiber officinale dans la ration n’a pas ameliore les parametres de digestibilite chez les moutons. © 2018 International Formulae Group. L’objet de l’etude etait de contribuer a l’amelioration de la gestion d’une culture de P. Clandestinum en vue d’assurer un disponible fourrager permanent en quantite et qualite optimales par le recours a la fenaison. A cet effet, un dispositif experimental en bloc completement randomise comparant trois frequences de fauche (30, 45 et 60 jours de croissance) en 8 repetitions sur des planches de 4 m 2 (2m x 2m) chacune, soit un total de 24 planches par bloc, a ete utilise pour la culture de P. Clandestinum . Le fourrage a ete successivement fauche a chaque frequence durant une saison culturale. Des echantillons de fourrage ont ete preleves a chaque fauche pour l’evaluation de la biomasse tandis que le reste du fourrage a ete seche au soleil pour la production du foin. Des echantillons de foin de chaque frequence de fauche ont ete analyses pour la determination de la composition chimique. Effect of Added Quantity of the Callistemon viminalis Essential Oil on the in Vivo Digestibility of Pennisetum Clandestinum Hay and Some Biochemical Parameters on the West African Dwarf Goat

After the adaptation period, each animal received 900 and 100 g/day of Pennisetum Clandestinum hay and concentrate respectively, associated with 0, 100 or 200 mg essential oil/kg of DM. The samples of 100 g of each ration, faeces and 10 ml of urine were collected and analyzed for chemical composition and the evaluation of ingestion and digestibility. Also blood samples were obtained from jugular vein of all goats after in vivo digestibility test for the dosage of biochemical parameters. The results of this study show that the ingestion of dry matter, organic matter and the fibers were significantly (p < 0.05) higher on the goat with the ration FPc + HECv200. The digestibilities of these same components were equally higher with the ration FPc + HECv200 (71.00% and 69.00% respectively for the dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM)). Retained (5.64 g/j) and digested (51.33) nitrogen were significantly (p < 0.05) higher with the ration FPc + HECv200. The values of blood metabolites studied increased significantly (p < 0.05) with added quantity of essential oil in the rations, except for albumin, globulin, glucose and the low-density lipoprotein (LDL). In general, the incorporation of essential oils of Callistemon viminalis in the ration improved ingestion, digestibility and biochemical parameters on the West African Dwarf goat.

La tendance inverse a ete observee avec les cendres, les proteines brutes, la digestibilite de la matiere organique, les matieres azotees digestibles, les unites fourrageres lait et viande. Enfin, la teneur en lipides la plus elevee (2,89 %) a ete obtenue avec la frequence de 45 jours. Tenant compte, a la fois, de la quantite (biomasse produite) et de la qualite (composition chimique), il ressort de cette etude que la fauche de 45 jours constitue l’option de choix d’exploitation optimale de la culture de P. Effect of Added Quantity of the Callistemon viminalis Essential Oil on the in Vivo Digestibility of Pennisetum Clandestinum Hay and Some Biochemical Parameters on the West African Dwarf Goat

After the adaptation period, each animal received 900 and 100 g/day of Pennisetum Clandestinum hay and concentrate respectively, associated with 0, 100 or 200 mg essential oil/kg of DM. The samples of 100 g of each ration, faeces and 10 ml of urine were collected and analyzed for chemical composition and the evaluation of ingestion and digestibility. Also blood samples were obtained from jugular vein of all goats after in vivo digestibility test for the dosage of biochemical parameters. The results of this study show that the ingestion of dry matter, organic matter and the fibers were significantly (p < 0.05) higher on the goat with the ration FPc + HECv200. The digestibilities of these same components were equally higher with the ration FPc + HECv200 (71.00% and 69.00% respectively for the dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM)). Retained (5.64 g/j) and digested (51.33) nitrogen were significantly (p < 0.05) higher with the ration FPc + HECv200. The values of blood metabolites studied increased significantly (p < 0.05) with added quantity of essential oil in the rations, except for albumin, globulin, glucose and the low-density lipoprotein (LDL). In general, the incorporation of essential oils of Callistemon viminalis in the ration improved ingestion, digestibility and biochemical parameters on the West African Dwarf goat.

L’objet de l’etude etait de contribuer a l’amelioration de la gestion d’une culture de P. Clandestinum en vue d’assurer un disponible fourrager permanent en quantite et qualite optimales par le recours a la fenaison. A cet effet, un dispositif experimental en bloc completement randomise comparant trois frequences de fauche (30, 45 et 60 jours de croissance) en 8 repetitions sur des planches de 4 m 2 (2m x 2m) chacune, soit un total de 24 planches par bloc, a ete utilise pour la culture de P. Clandestinum . Le fourrage a ete successivement fauche a chaque frequence durant une saison culturale. Des echantillons de fourrage ont ete preleves a chaque fauche pour l’evaluation de la biomasse tandis que le reste du fourrage a ete seche au soleil pour la production du foin. Des echantillons de foin de chaque frequence de fauche ont ete analyses pour la determination de la composition chimique. Les resultats obtenus ont montre que l’augmentation de l’intervalle de fauche (30, 45 et 60 jours) a entraine une augmentation non significative (p>0,05) de la biomasse totale (16,10 ; 18,64 et 19,41 t MS/ha) et significative (p<0,05) de la biomasse moyenne (2,68 ; 4,66 et 6,47 t MS/ha). La composition chimique du fourrage a montre que l’augmentation de l’intervalle de fauche a eu pour effet l’augmentation significative (p<0,05) des teneurs en MS, MO, NDF, cellulose, hemicellulose et glucides totaux. La tendance inverse a ete observee avec les cendres, les proteines brutes, la digestibilite de la matiere organique, les matieres azotees digestibles, les unites fourrageres lait et viande. Enfin, la teneur en lipides la plus elevee (2,89 %) a ete obtenue avec la frequence de 45 jours. Tenant compte, a la fois, de la quantite (biomasse produite) et de la qualite (composition chimique), il ressort de cette etude que la fauche de 45 jours constitue l’option de choix d’exploitation optimale de la culture de P. Par contre, la digestibilite de la matiere seche (DIVMS), la masse microbienne (MM) et l’azote residuel (NDF-N) ont significativement (p˂0,05) baisse avec le niveau croissant d’incorporation d’huile essentielle. La quantite de matiere organique fermentee pour produire 1ml de gaz (FC) des rations contenant 40 (4,4 mg/ml) ou 80 μl (4,41 mg/ml) d’huiles essentielles a ete comparable (P˃0,05) mais significativement (P˂0,05) plus eleves que celle de la ration sans huile essentielle (2,44 mg/ml). Contrasting genetic structure between Magnaporthe grisea populations associated with the golf course turfgrasses Lolium perenne (perennial ryegrass) and Pennisetum Clandestinum (kikuyugrass).

WongAbstract:Gray leaf spot (GLS) disease of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) and kikuyugrass (Pennisetum Clandestinum) in golf courses in California was first noted in 2001 and 2003, respectively, and within 5 years had become well established. The causal agent of the disease is the fungus Magnaporthe grisea, which is known to consist primarily of clonal lineages that are highly host specific. Therefore, our objective was to investigate host specificity and population dynamics among isolates associated primarily from perennial ryegrass and kikuyugrass since the disease emerged at similar times in California. We also obtained isolates from additional hosts (tall fescue, St. Augustinegrass, weeping lovegrass, and rice) and from the eastern United States for comparative purposes. A total of 38 polymorphic amplified fragment length polymorphism makers were scored from 450 isolates which clustered by host with high bootstrap support (71 to 100%). Genetic structure between kikuyugrass and perennial ryegrass isolates differed significantly. Isolates from kikuyugrass were genotypically diverse (n = 34), possessed both mating types, and some tests for random mating could not be rejected, whereas isolates from perennial ryegrass were less genotypically diverse (n = 10) and only consisted of a single mating type. Low genotypic diversity was also found among the other host specific isolates which also only consisted of a single mating type. This is the first study to document evidence for the potential of sexual reproduction to occur in M. grisea isolates not associated with rice (Oryza sativa). Moreover, given the significant host specificity and contrasting genetic structures between turfgrass-associated isolates, the recent emergence of GLS on various grass hosts in California suggests that potential cultural practices or environmental changes have become conducive for the disease and that the primary inoculum may have already been present in the state, despite the fact that two genotypes associated with perennial ryegrass and St. Augustinegrass in California were the same as isolates collected from the eastern United States.

First report of Pyricularia grisea causing gray leaf spot on kikuyugrass (Pennisetum Clandestinum) in the United States.

StowellAbstract:Kikuyugrass (Pennisetum Clandestinum) is a warm-season turfgrass that has been adopted for use in fairways and roughs in a number of subtropical areas including southern California, Mexico, Australia, and South Africa. During August 2003, a foliar disease of Kikuyugrass was reported from a number of golf courses in southern California. Examination of diseased plants showed the presence of dark, olive green-to-brown lesions on the foliage. Incubation of these plants in a moist chamber for 12 h led to the production of numerous pyriform conidia from these lesions that were characteristic of Pyricularia grisea. Single-spore isolates of the fungus were obtained from infected kikuyugrass samples by transferring conidia to acidified 1.5% water agar and then transferring single, germinated conidia to one-quarter-strength potato dextrose agar. Colony morphology and conidia production were consistent with that described for P. grisea (1). Koch's postulates were performed separately for two single-spore isolates (OSGC-1 and CCCC-1) obtained from infected kikuyugrass. For each isolate, 2-week-old, glasshouse-grown seedlings of kikuyugrass (cv. 'AZ-1') and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) grown in 75-mm pots in soilless media were inoculated with conidia from either OSGC-1 or CCCC-1. For each test, six pots of both kikuyugrass and ryegrass were inoculated, and the tests were conducted three times for each isolate. Conidia were obtained from isolates grown on clarified V8 agar in 100-mm petri plates for 14 days at 25°C. Suspensions were made by adding 10 ml of sterile distilled H2O (sdH2O) to the plates, scraping the surface of the media to dislodge the conidia, filtering the suspension through cheesecloth, and then adjusting the final concentration to 1 × 106 conidia/ml with sdH2O. Seedlings were inoculated with the conidial suspensions with an aerosol applicator, placed in plastic boxes lined with wet paper towels, and sealed to provide adequate moisture for infection. Boxes were incubated at 28°C for 48 h after which time the covers were removed and the plants maintained in ambient glasshouse conditions at approximately 28°C. In all three replicated experiments, kikuyugrass seedlings inoculated with OSGC-1 or CCCC-1 developed symptoms of disease approximately 5 days after inoculation, while inoculated perennial ryegrass did not, even 14 days after inoculation. Symptomatic kikuyugrass leaves were taken randomly from plants from each of the three replicated tests, surface disinfested in 0.3% sodium hypochlorite for 30 s, rinsed with sdH2O, blotted dry, and placed onto acidified water agar in petri plates. Twenty-four hours later, abundant sporulation was observed from symptomatic tissue with conidiophores bearing conidia typical of P. grisea. Les resultats de cette etude ont montre que l’ajout de 40 ou 80 μl d’huiles essentielles n’a eu aucun effet significatif sur le volume de gaz produit (GP) apres 24 h d’incubation, l’energie metabolisable (EM), la production d’acide gras volatils (AGV) et la digestibilite de la matiere organique (DIVMO). Par contre, la digestibilite de la matiere seche (DIVMS), la masse microbienne (MM) et l’azote residuel (NDF-N) ont significativement (p˂0,05) baisse avec le niveau croissant d’incorporation d’huile essentielle. La quantite de matiere organique fermentee pour produire 1ml de gaz (FC) des rations contenant 40 (4,4 mg/ml) ou 80 μl (4,41 mg/ml) d’huiles essentielles a ete comparable (P˃0,05) mais significativement (P˂0,05) plus eleves que celle de la ration sans huile essentielle (2,44 mg/ml). De maniere generale, l’incorporation de l’huile essentielle de Zingiber officinale dans la ration n’a pas ameliore les parametres de digestibilite chez les moutons. © 2018 International Formulae Group. Mots cles: Digestibilite in vitro , huile essentielle, Pennisetum Clandestinum , Zingiber officinale English Title: Effects of essential oil rhizomes of Zingiber officinale on the in vitro digestibility of the hay of Pennisetum Clandestinum English Abstract The efficiency of metabolic nitrogen and energy for better ruminant’s production depends ruminal microbial digestion which could be improved by the use of the essential oil. This study aimed at improving the knowledge on the valorization of the essential oil within the ruminant’s feeding. Thus, the study of the effects of essential oil (EO) of Zingiber officinale on the in vitro digestibility parameters of the Pennisetum Clandestinum hay was conducted in the Laboratory of the Livestock Productions, Animal Nutrition and feeding of the University of Dschang. Essential oil was extracted from the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale by hydrodistillation technique. The ration consisted of Pennisetum Clandestinum (70%) and Bidens pilosa (30%) associated with three doses (0, 40 and 80 μl) of essential oil of Zingiber officinale with sheep ruminal fluid. The results showed that the addition of 40 or 80 μl of essential oils did not have any significant effect on production of gases (PG) after 24 h of incubation, metabolized energy, the volatile fatty acid production and the in vitro digestibility of the organic matter. On the other hand, the in vitro digestibility of the dry matter, microbial mass and residual nitrogen decreased significantly (p˂0.05) with the increasing level of essential oil. The organic matter fermented for the production of 1 ml gas (partitioning factor) of rations containing 40 (4.4 mg/ml) or 80 μl (4.41 mg/ml) essential oils was comparable (P˃0.05) but, significantly (P˂0.05) higher than that of the ration without essential oil (2.44 mg/ml). Effect of Added Quantity of the Callistemon viminalis Essential Oil on the in Vivo Digestibility of Pennisetum Clandestinum Hay and Some Biochemical Parameters on the West African Dwarf Goat

After the adaptation period, each animal received 900 and 100 g/day of Pennisetum Clandestinum hay and concentrate respectively, associated with 0, 100 or 200 mg essential oil/kg of DM. The samples of 100 g of each ration, faeces and 10 ml of urine were collected and analyzed for chemical composition and the evaluation of ingestion and digestibility. Also blood samples were obtained from jugular vein of all goats after in vivo digestibility test for the dosage of biochemical parameters. The results of this study show that the ingestion of dry matter, organic matter and the fibers were significantly (p < 0.05) higher on the goat with the ration FPc + HECv200. The digestibilities of these same components were equally higher with the ration FPc + HECv200 (71.00% and 69.00% respectively for the dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM)). Retained (5.64 g/j) and digested (51.33) nitrogen were significantly (p < 0.05) higher with the ration FPc + HECv200. The values of blood metabolites studied increased significantly (p < 0.05) with added quantity of essential oil in the rations, except for albumin, globulin, glucose and the low-density lipoprotein (LDL). In general, the incorporation of essential oils of Callistemon viminalis in the ration improved ingestion, digestibility and biochemical parameters on the West African Dwarf goat.
