    Abstract:

    Recently, Andersen and Cyranowski (1994) presented a self-report measure of women's sexual self-schema, or cognitive view of the self regarding sexuality. In the current study, we investigated potential relationships between women's sexual self-schema and physical attractiveness, body size and shape, and body image. Young adult women (N = 199) completed questionnaires and were weighed, measured, and rated for facial attractiveness. Results revealed that sexual self-schema was unrelated to body size or shape, general body dissatisfaction, history of teasing about weight, and degree of investment in Personal Appearance. Sexual self-schema scores significantly correlated with experimenter-rated facial attractiveness, self-rated facial and bodily attractiveness, and degree of social avoidance due to concerns over Personal Appearance, however. In a multiple regression analysis, only self-rated facial attractiveness and social avoidance were unique predictors. Results are discussed with regard to implications f...

    Abstract:

    In this study, we investigate the influence of Kawaii Appearance on persuasiveness within the context of a negotiation, and propose a support system for advising women on their negotiation approach—with a focus on the negotiator’s Kawaii Appearance. As a result of this experiment, we were able to obtain the multiple regression equation indicating the importance of the three language factors (euphemistic, honorific and sympathy expressions) for impressions made during negotiations. Based on this multiple regression equation, we constructed a system which automatically suggests negotiation sentences appropriate for creating a certain desired impression. Our system is expected to be able to recommend the optimal negotiation sentences based on the user’s Personal and situational factors (such as Kawaii Appearance, use of language, age, and relationship to the negotiation counterpart).

    Women in early modern England were expected in their Personal apparance to conform to notions of gender, class and godliness. Women did credit to their husbands and families by presenting a comely Appearance in which there was no possibility of confusion as to gender or class. This article explores how the literature of the period tried to manage the paradox of these expectations alongside concerns about vanity, excess and the mutability of fashion. It concludes that even godly women were subject to considerable pressures about dressing and presenting themselves to meet expectations of how they should look rather than the beauty of their souls.
