    Journal of Jiaying University, 2008
    Co-Authors: Lai Li-chao
    Abstract:

The paste viscosity,clarity,freeze-thaw stability, retrogradation, gelatinization difficult or easy degree, salt tolerance, sucrose tolerance and anti-mycotic characteristics of Pueraria lobata starch Phosphate Ester were studied. The results showed that compared with the Pueraria lobata starch, the starch Phosphate Ester had properties of easier gelatinization, higher clarity, better retrogradation,freeze-thaw stability improved, and paste viscosity decreased. With degree substitution added, the Pueraria lobata starch Phosphate Ester was easier to gelatinize, the tolerance to salt and sucrose increased, the clarity first increased and then decreased. The effects of degree substitution on retrogradation and anti-mycotic were less.

  • Effect of type of solvent and dispersant on NANO PZT powder dispersion for tape casting slurry
    Journal of Materials Science, 2002
Co-Authors: S. Bhaskar Reddy, P. Paramanano Singh, Natarajan Raghu, V Kumar
    Abstract:

Dispersion of PZT powder of average particle size 75 nm in commonly used solvent systems for tape casting namely, toluene-ethanol and MEK-ethanol (azeotropic), xylene-ethanol (zeotropic) along with triton x-100, menhaden fish oil and Phosphate Ester as dispersants has been studied using simple sedimentation experiments. The relative merits of these three solvent systems and dispersants in dispersing PZT powder was analyzed. In all the three solvent systems, Phosphate Ester was found to be the best dispersant. Xylene-ethanol with Phosphate Ester gave the excellent dispersion characteristics for nano-PZT powder. The results of initial dispersion studies were confirmed by the formation of defect free, denser and smooth green tapes using xylene-ethanol and Phosphate Ester, while the other two solvent systems gave defective green tapes. The influence of Phosphate Ester on dispersion is explained by the dissociation and ionization, and the dominance of electrostatic repulsion even though organic solvent systems were used.

  • tg ftir and tg ms analysis applied to study the flame retardancy of pvc castor oil based chlorinated Phosphate Ester blends
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2016
Co-Authors: Puyou Jia, Meng Zhang, Yonghong Zhou
    Abstract:

We report here for the first time a chlorinated Phosphate Ester derived from castor oil (CPCO) for preparing flame-retardant poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) materials. Flame-retardant PVC materials plasticized with different amount of CPCO were prepared by solvent casting method. The property of flame-retardant PVC materials was investigated with LOI, SEM, TG, TG-FTIR and TG-MS. The results showed that the LOI value of plasticized PVC blends reached 36.3 %. TG-FTIR and TG-MS were used to investigate the pyrolysis products during the thermal degradation process. The nonflammable gases included a few phosphorus-containing compounds, such as P–O–C and P–OH, indicating that more phosphorus-containing compounds were generated during the thermal degradation of CPCO still retained in char residue rather than gas phase, which promoted the formation of high-quality carbon residue. Consolidated and compact structure of carbon residue was produced and covered on the surface of flame-retardant PVC materials, which was effective to prevent the heat flux and air entering PVC matrix, then protected the underlying materials and improved the thermal and flame-retardant performance of PVC materials.

  • effect of chlorinated Phosphate Ester based on castor oil on thermal degradation of poly vinyl chloride blends and its flame retardant mechanism as secondary plasticizer
    RSC Advances, 2015
Co-Authors: Meng Zhang, Lihong Hu, Guodong Feng, Caiying Bo, Yonghong Zhou
    Abstract:

A novel flame retardant chlorinated Phosphate Ester based on castor oil (CPECO) was synthesized. Chemical structure of CPECO was characterized with FTIR, 1H NMR and 31P NMR. The application of CPECO as a secondary plasticizer for poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) not only gained satisfied flame retardancy and mechanical properties, but also substituted for dioctyl phthalate (DOP) partly. Flame retardant properties of PVC plasticized with CPECO was explored with LOI tests, SEM, TGA, TGA-FTIR, TGA-MS and cone calorimeter tests. The results showed that LOI value of plasticized PVC blends could increase from 23.6% to 35.4%. TGA-FTIR and TGA-MS detected that the main pyrolysis products of PVC blends were H2O, HCl, CO2, CO and C6H6. Cone calorimeter tests showed that peak heat release (pHRR) of plasticized PVC blends could decreased from 379.00 to 289.00 kW m−2, total heat release (THR) decreased from 31.78 to 19.12 MJ m−2. The flame retardant mechanism of plasticized PVC blends could be concluded that phosphorous-containing components generated from pyrolysis of CPECO could promote formation of char residual. The char residual was blown by evolving gases which produced a foaming and expansion of the char layer. The carbonaceous char layer is effective to slow mass and heat transfer between the gas and condensed phases and to protect the underlying material from further combustion. The glass-transition temperature (Tg), mechanical properties of PVC blends and migration stability of CPECO were investigated.
