    Abstract:

    Design and management of logistic networks is one of the most critical issues in supply chain management. However, the literature does not contain any effective models, methods, and applications that simultaneously support management decisions in the strategic design of the Distribution system, in the operational planning and organization of vehicles, and in container trips organization adopting different modes of transportation. The aim of this paper is to illustrate an original framework for the design and optimization of a multi echelon and multi level production/Distribution system that combines mixed-integer linear programming modeling with cluster analysis, heuristic algorithms, and optimal transportation rules. A significant case study is illustrated revealing the effectiveness of the approach and tools proposed.

    Abstract:

    The evolution from Physical Distribution to logistics, and then to supply chain management has invoked many interesting studies in recent years. By applying the material flow theory that expands attributes of logistics to coordination of environment, economy, and society, this paper examines the evolution from a unique perspective: sustainable development. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary review of the evolution of Physical Distribution, logistics, supply chain management, and their new stage-material flow theory. The paper aims at tracing how concepts and findings in Physical Distribution, logistics, supply chain management, and material flow have been developed and extended continually. The results show that the requirements for material flow services vary with the economic development level in different countries and that material flow service is required to be compatible with a country's development stage. The paper concludes that the MF theory is the option for dealing with the overwhelming complexity of material flow systems in the global economy of the twenty-first century.

    The quality of the Physical Distribution service industrial purchasers receive from suppliers has been shown to be an important consideration in industrial purchasing decisions. To better understand the criteria used to assess Physical Distribution service quality, the authors examined the literature on Physical Distribution and service quality and conducted interviews with purchasing managers. Based on the results of the literature reviews and interviews, plus a two-step data-gathering process, a valid and reliable measurement instrument for perceptions of Physical Distribution service quality (PDSQ) was developed and refined.

    Abstract The traditional Distribution network is gradually evolving into the cyber Physical Distribution system (CPDS) to suit the new characteristics of the Distribution network. Distribution network plays an important role of risk source and vulnerable sector. Therefore, it is necessary to do some research on the reliability assessment for CPDS. The key factors of reliability assessment for the Distribution network mainly including network components, cyber medium, network topology are firstly analyzed. Reliability assessment index is then summarized in terms of traditional Physical system, common cyber system and the CPDS from extensive literature. This is followed by a review of reliability assessment methods in CPDS, which is mainly categorized into two aspects. Finally, the future research emphases are discussed.
