SMEM++: A Pipelined and Time-Multiplexed SMEM Seeding Accelerator for Genome Sequencing

Therecently developed quadratic-time SMEM seeding algorithmbecomes a time-consuming computation kernel in genomesequencing, but it has not been well studied. The fundamentalchallenge of accelerating the SMEM algorithm is to handle itslarge volume of random memory accesses. While the state-ofthe-art SMEM accelerator attempts sacrifices the performanceof individual processing elements to maximize the task-levelparallelism, this methodology suffers a serious resource underutilizationissue. Therefore, we propose SMEM++, a pipelinedand time-multiplexed FPGA accelerator for SMEM algorithm.SMEM++ adopts the canonical non-blocking pipelinemethodology and implements a fully pipelined acceleratorwith initiation interval equal to one. Moreover, we designa communication Interface adapter to make the acceleratorcompatible to the target Platform Interface and increase itsportability. Experiments on the Intel HARPv2 Platform showthat SMEM++ outperforms the original software by 24x, andoutperforms the state-of-the-art SMEM accelerator design by6.3x, with 43% less logic resource usage.

A Novel Cloud Platform for Service Robots

While the manufacturing cost of the robots is too expensive for most small technology companies. The biggest technical limitations are the design of the robot service and the resources sharing of the robot groups. As far as we know, there is no complete and open-source service robot cloud service Platform. To solve the above problems, in this paper, a novel robot cloud Platform called cloud robotics intelligent cloud Platform (CRICP) is designed, which consists of gateway layer, an Interface layer, service pool, and algorithm layer. Gateway layer mainly solves the problem of robot access control and service invocation requests scheduling. In addition, a standardized access method is proposed to overcome the problem that heterogeneous service robots cannot access the cloud Platform. Interface layer is responsible for protocol injection, including motoring protocol, a management protocol, and other algorithms invocation protocol or service invocation Interfaces protocol. Service Pool consists of different kinds of robot services which could scale based on the historical data analysis. In Algorithm layer, we can implement machine learning (ML) algorithm, deep learning (DL) algorithm, distributed algorithm, and so on. Finally, voice recognition service invocation experiment and cloud service dynamic scaling test are taken as an example to verify the availability and accuracy of our Platform. Moreover, the compared results with a local framework and SOA also verifies the superiority of our Platform.

Real-time Interface between MES and SAP based on middleware

Then “Interface middleware”, “both- sides- design” concept and design of the Interface middleware protocol were introduced. Finally, a cross - Platform Interface design was explored according to the definitions and protocol. This paper takes the Interface between Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for Discrete Manufacturing (DM) and SAP for example to illustrate the methodology and application of “middleware Interface”.

Improving the usability of the user Interface for a digital textbook Platform for elementary-school students
Educational Technology Research and Development, 2012Co-Authors: Hae-deok SongAbstract:Usability is critical to the development of a user-friendly digital textbook Platform Interface, yet thorough research on Interface development based on usability principles is in short supply. This study addresses that need by looking at usability attributes and corresponding design elements from a learning perspective. The researchers used a student survey, log files, and an expert heuristic evaluation to analyze needs for revision in the user Interface of the existing Korea Education Research Information Service digital textbook Platform. After using suggestions derived from this analysis to develop a new Platform prototype, they tested its user Interface for usability through a cognitive walkthrough and a formative evaluation. The results show that the usability design elements identified through the use of this iterative design and evaluation model were essential to improving the usability of the user Interface and thus facilitating users’ actions and learning processes.
