Skandalepolitikk og medienes rolle: En emnemodellering av mediedekningen av metoo-kampanjen.
The University of Bergen, 2020Co-Authors: Smedsvik VildeAbstract:Throughout the past decades, Political Scandals have been increasingly widespread across the world. The key elements of Political Scandals are typically sex, money, and power. Today these Scandals could not have existed without the media. Scandals have gained increasing status in the Political public, and during Scandals, the trust in politicians is rigorously tested. The Scandals are often directed at individual politicians, where the characteristics of the politician are subject to considerable speculation. The study of Political Scandals is of importance to students of comparative politics because Scandals affect the Political system, and as a result of the widespread awareness of Scandals, the opportunity is offered to examine what effect they have in society as a whole. The #metoo campaign became a global campaign for women fighting against sexual harassment, confronting several Political actors, and the media played a central role. In December 2017, 2143 articles was written on #metoo by the Norwegian press. Whereas the media see it as their social duty to uncover power abuse and other fundamental norm violations, the scholars are claiming that this is contributing to a personification of politics, which is understood as a negative consequence. This thesis applies topic modelling of ten different Norwegian newspapers, examining which aspects of the Political Scandal the media has been focusing on in their coverage. Scandals affect voters, and readers’ interpretations or perspectives may be modified based on the medias presentation. Thus, the role of media during Political Scandals is a significant matter. The result indicate that the media had an overwhelmingly large proportion of their focus directed at one Political actor, and one may argue that this have contributed to personalization. Whether this is an absolute negative aspect, is up for discussion. Furthermore, the analyses in this thesis accumulate several questions that can not be answered by topic modelling but may be interesting and meaningful for further research. Although many of the results are significant, this thesis also display many of the pitfalls of automatic content analysis methods

Failed Seafaring, Migratory Labor, and a Vietnamese Bride in South Korea
'University of Toronto Libraries - UOTL', 2020Co-Authors: Oh HyeongjinAbstract:In April 2014, a ship named Sewol, carrying 476 passengers on its way to Jeju Island, sank into the Yellow Sea, near South Korea. The shipwreck exposed the Park administration’s incapacity to save civilians and ignited a huge Political Scandal that eventually impeached and imprisoned the President. In this paper, I centrally discuss two ways of performance art’s embodiment of the actual/imagined body of its subjects through stage devices (the prosthetic) and reconstruction of the audience’s sense of temporality (the stage as temporal indicator), by examining a South Korean performance piece’s engagement with the navigational failure and the systematic racialization of Southeast Asian immigrants by multiculturalist art policies and apparatuses.

À qui faire avaler la pilule ?
'Universite Catholique de Louvain', 2020Co-Authors: Fonquerne LeslieAbstract:In France, the rate of contraceptive prevalence has remained high since the diffusion of the various medical methods from the 1970s, with the pill being represen- tative of its growth. Yet, towards the end of 2012, the third and fourth generation pills were a source of media, health and Political Scandal due to an associated health risk, resulting in disaffection for oral contraception as a whole. Since then, and despite a significant decrease of its use rate, the pill remains the most commonly used method. However, this does not mean that all users enjoy a free and informed contraceptive choice. Focusing on the practices of healthcare workers, this paper proposes to study the impact of the different approaches to care in terms of inequalities in access to infor- mation and the prescription of contraceptives, as well as to understand its specificities based the ways in which healthcare workers categorise their patients.

Moral Foundations theory in the context of a Political Scandal: Two cross sectional studies in Croatia
Sveuciliste u Splitu, 2020Co-Authors: Darko Hren, Ivan Buljan, Ana MarušićAbstract:Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the moral foundations structure in the Croatian population, and to examine possible changes in moral foundation structure after a major Political Scandal in Croatia. Methods: We conducted an online survey using Moral Foundations Questionnaire and Key Social Issues Scale, which was distributed in two waves, in 2009 and 2014. Participants were invided from the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences at the universities in Zagreb and Split and asked to distribute the survey to colleagues and friends. Results: 3000 participants completed the survey in 2009, 1323 participants completed the survey in 2014. In both samples, most participants reported that they relied more on individual foundations of “Care/Harm” and “Fairness/Cheating”, than on relational foundations of “Loyalty/Betrayal”, “Authority/Subversion” or “Sanctity/Degradation”, which are typically more valued by traditionally oriented or conservative individuals. Comparison of the two measurement time points indicated that scores on traditional foundations significantly decreased, while liberal values increased. These changes were triangulated and confirmed by the results on the Key Social Issues Scale. Conclusion: This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first study which analysed the changes in the moral foundations structure after a major Political Scandal, implicating that negative Political events may decrease the expression of moral foundations related to the values which are nurtured by a Political party involved in the Scandal
