    Abstract:

    Abstract Background Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) programs have emerged since mid-1990s with the aim of improving survival from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). The extent to which their implementation in the community differs among different areas has not been evaluated. Methods We carried out a 5-year prospective national evaluation of PAD programs in 51 French districts (29.3 million inhabitants), through the cumulative density of Automated External Defibrillator (AEDs) and the proportion of persons educated in Basic Life Support (BLS). Results Major regional discrepancies were observed with AED density from 5 to 3399 per 100,000 inhabitants per 1000 km 2 , and BLS-educated inhabitants varying from 6955 to 36,636 per 100,000 inhabitants. Only 18 districts (35.3%) achieved both AED density and Educational rate above median (>13,988 and >22, respectively). Extrapolating the data from the French national registry on sports OHCA, mean survival rate was two-folds higher with AED density above the median (7.9% vs. 17.8%, P   0.001) and four-fold higher with BLS-Education above the median (5.0% vs. 20.9%, P   0.001). In the group with both AED density and BLS-Education level above the median, the survival rate reached up to 22.5%. Only the rate of Population BLS Education remained independently associated with survival (OR 1.64, 95% Confidence Interval 1.17–2.31; P  = 0.0045). Conclusions Major heterogeneities in PAD programs exist, with significant room for better coordination in implementation. Population Education in BLS provides an important benefit, regardless of the density of AEDs deployed, which should be taken into account in planning public health policies for improving OHCA survival.

    Abstract:

    This research aimed to evaluate the implementation of Population Education in senior high school in terms of (1) learning process, (2) learning materials, (3) evaluation process, (4) course outcome, (5) teachers’ role, (6) perception of Population Education, and (7) factors supporting and inhabitting Population Education. The research subjects were one teachers’ supervisor, three teachers, and 65 students. The data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation and analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics. The qualitative data collected through interviews were used for deeper explanation. The research findings were: (1) the teaching process was not quite appropriate, (2) materials for Population Education were available and efficient, (3) the evaluation process was not appropriate, (4) the students were satisfied with the teachers’ role, (5) the students’ perception of Population Education was very positive, and (6) the constraints in Population Education included (a) limitation in time, (b) too many extracurricular activities, (c) rapid change of data, and (d) the validity of materials.

    Abstract:

    This research aims to evaluate the implementation of Population Education in Senior High School SMAN 5 Yogyakarta in terms of (1) learning process, (2) materials in learning process (3) evaluation, (4) course outcome, (5) teachers’role, (6)perception on Population Education, (7) factors which are favorable and factors which are constraints to Population Education. This study used the quantitative research approach supported by qualitative data. The research subjects comprised principals, teachers and students. They were selected by means of the purposive sampling techniques. The data were collected trough questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data were analysed as follow: quantitative data from students’ survey were analysed with descriptive statistic. They were confronted to the qualitative data in order to make reduction, summary and draw conclusion. The study reveals following findings. (a) The teaching process of Population Education is less appropriate in class XI. It falls into “sometimes category” with the mean score of 29.6. (b) Materials for Population Education in Senior High School SMAN 5 are available and effecient. Materials in populaton Education are located in “often category” with the mean score of 14.17. (c) The evaluation in Population Education is less appropriate. It fall into “sometimes category” with a mean score of 11.52. The Population Education items that are included in the evaluation are not enough. (d) The Population Education outcome is high. It is located in “agree category” with the average score of 17.70. The students are aware of, responsible for, and disciplined about Population issues nawadays. (e) The role of the teacher in Population Education is in “near to appropriate” category with the index of 0.87. The students are satisfied with the role of teachers in Population Education class. The teachers are concerned with Population Education and are professional and play their role well in class. (f)The students’ perception of Population Education is very positive. It is in “strongly agree category” with the mean score of 27.38. (g) The constraints in Population Education include limitation in time, many extra curricular activities, rapid change of data, and validity of materials.

    Abstract Sensory Education has the potential to activate chemosensory awareness in children and may lead to them developing healthier and more balanced eating habits. The increasing evidence for the effectiveness of a sensory based Education was mainly shown in studies with primary school children. As there is a lack of data with older children of mandatory school age, this study focused on pupils aged 11 to 14. Therefore, 258 children from four secondary schools in Austria were selected for a trial with the purpose to evaluate the impact of a sensory Education program, which was integrated in the school subject nutrition and household. The study was structured into 5 sections and included a sensory training over a period of 6 months for one part of the study Population (Education group) and the evaluation of gustatory and olfactory perception (all participants) at different times (baseline and follow up 1-3). The data obtained from the baseline investigation demonstrates low taste and smell identification abilities of the evaluated Austrian school children and was an essential information for planning an effective sensory training.     Abstract:

    The present report has been prepared in response to Economic and Social Council resolution 1995/55 of 28 July 1995 in which the Council endorsed the terms of reference and the topic-oriented and prioritized multi-year work programme proposed by the Commission on Population and Development at its twenty-eighth session. According to the multi-year work programme which was to serve as a framework for the assessment of the progress achieved in the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development a series of annual reports on a special set of themes of the Programme of Action would be prepared. The Commission in its decision 2000/1 of 30 March 2000 decided that the special theme for the year 2003 should be Population Education and development which is the topic of this report. The report provides a summary of recent information on selected aspects of Population Education and development. It covers topics such as trends in Population Education and development; Education and entry into reproductive life; the interrelationships between Education and fertility; Education health and mortality; and Education and international migration. The report finds that Education plays a key role in national development besides being a prime component of individual well-being. Through Education individuals are empowered to have choices and make decisions in such areas as work place of residence family size health and lifestyles and personal development.
