ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2019
Co-Authors: Di Zhang, Xinzheng Jin, Ting Huang, Nan Zhang, Jinghui Yang, Zuowan Zhou, Yong Wang
    Abstract:

Developing highly efficient and multifunctional membranes toward oil adsorption and oil/water separation is of significance in oily wastewater treatment. Herein, a novel electrospun composite membrane with dual-scaled Porous Structure and nanoraised Structure on each fiber was fabricated through electrospinning using biodegradable polylactide (PLA) and magnetic γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles. The PLA/γ-Fe2O3 composite membranes show high porosity (>90%), superhydrophobic and superlipophilic performances with CH2I2 contact angle of 0°, good water adhesion ability like water droplets on a petal surface, excellent anti-icing performance, and good mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 1.31 MPa and a tensile modulus of 11.65 MPa. The superlipophilicity and dual-scaled Porous Structure endow the composite membranes with ultrahigh oil adsorption capacity up to 268.6 g/g toward motor oil. Furthermore, the composite membranes also show high oil permeation flux up to 2925 L/m2 h under the force of gravity. Even f...

  • enabling phase transition of infused lubricant in Porous Structure for exceptional oil water separation
    Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2020
Co-Authors: Feng Wang, Sihai Luo, Senbo Xiao, Wenjing Zhang, Yizhi Zhuo, Zhiliang Zhang
    Abstract:

Abstract The fundamental mechanism behind oil/water separation materials is their surface wettability that allows either oil or water to pass through. The conventional materials for oil/water separation generally have extreme wettability, namely superhydrophilic for water separation and superhydrophobic for oil separation. Using easily accessible materials that are medium hydrophobic or even relatively hydrophilic for preparing highly efficient oil/water separators have rarely been reported. In this work, a new strategy by triggering phase transition of infused lubricant from liquid to solid state in Porous Structure is realized in fabricating slippery lubricant infused Porous Structure for oil/water separations. By infusing polyester fabric with coconut oil, after phase transition, excellent water repellency and oil permeability by an absorbing-permeating mechanism are achieved, despite the low water contact angle on the new material. Although the new phase transformable slippery lubricant infused Porous Structure, features much milder hydrophobicity than conventional oil/water separators, it can remove diverse types of oil from water with high efficiencies. The phase transformable slippery lubricant infused Porous Structure is able to maintain their water repellency after immersing in high concentration salt (10 wt% NaCl), acid (25 % HCl), alkaline (25 % NH3·H2O) solutions for 120 h, showing remarkably functional durability in harsh environment. The lubricant phase transition mechanism proposed in this study is universally applicable to Porous substrates with various chemical compositions and pore Structures, such as Porous sponges or even daily life breads, for creating efficient oil/water separators, which can serve as a novel accessible design principle of phase transformable slippery lubricant infused Porous Structure for eco-friendly oil/water separators.

  • one step conversion from core shell metal organic framework materials to cobalt and nitrogen codoped carbon nanopolyhedra with hierarchically Porous Structure for highly efficient oxygen reduction
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2017
Co-Authors: Zhengping Zhang, Meiling Dou, Feng Wang
    Abstract:

Rational design of Porous Structure is an effective way to fabricate the nonprecious metal electrocatalysts (NPMCs) toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) with high activity comparable or even superior to Pt-based electrocatalysts. Herein, we demonstrate a facile synthetic route to fabricate cobalt and nitrogen codoped carbon nanopolyhedra with hierarchically Porous Structure (Co,N-HCNP) by one-step carbonization of core–shell Structured ZIF-8@ZIF-67 crystals. The resultant Co,N-HCNP electrocatalyst possesses a unique hierarchically micro/mesoPorous Structure with internal micropores and external mesopores, of which sufficient exposure and accessibility of ORR active sites can be achieved due to the large specific surface area and efficient transport pathway. More importantly, the existence of ZIF-8 core in the core–shell Structured ZIF-8@ZIF-67 can promote the homogeneous pyrolysis of ZIF-67 shell, leading to a uniform distribution of Co–Nx active sites for Co,N-HCNP. As a result, the well-designed Co,N-...
