    Abstract:

    Abstract The present study is a validation study asking the question if the method of using Thinking-aloud protocols (TAPs) for investigating learning effects is appropriate, as the Process of Thinking aloud could play a crucial role in cognitive Processing by prompting self-regulative Processes and could therefore interfere with learning. The present work uses the negative learning effect of seductive details to investigate this research question and is thereby also offering a new perspective from research on self-regulation on the discussion of the seductive details effect. 120 university students learned with a digital learning program that was varied by the two factors Thinking-aloud (with vs. without) and seductive details (with vs. without) in the 2x2 factorial design study. Results show that TAPs affect visual information Processing measured by eye movement, subjectively perceived cognitive load, and retention performance, but not comprehension or transfer performance. Moreover, the seductive details effect is confirmed to be stable also under the TAPs condition, as no interaction effects were found. These findings have several interesting theoretical and practical implications that are discussed from three viewpoints, the methodological, the research on seductive details and the self-regulation perspective.

    Higher order Thinking skills (HOTS) is one of the important aspect of teaching and learning mathematics. By using HOTS, student will be able to acquire a deep understand of mathematical concepts and can be applied in real life. Students ability to develop the capacity of the HOTS is closely related with Thinking Processes while solving mathematics problems. This research focused, at describing the Thinking Process of students in solving mathematical problem involving HOTS problem. The method used is a qualitative method and case study design, the data collected through mathematics tests and interviews. There are 3 students selected as participant Data analysis techniques are descriptive qualitative, analysis according to the model proposed by Miles and Huberman (1992), namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The result of the study showed that the students Thinking Process in solving mathematics problem is by using the systematic Thinking (1) creating of meaning (2) making of opinion, and 3) making conclution.

    Publisher Summary This chapter deals with the prevention of attacks on public officials and public figures, which is a Secret Service perspective. Assassination of political leaders and other public figures is a rare, but significant problem in the United States. The chief goal of the special case study project is to collect information and increase knowledge that might help law enforcement organizations to accomplish defensive responsibilities for public officials and public figures. The study plan involved two kinds of data collection and review. First, all available archival information about each subject was gathered and coded. Second, interviews were conducted with living subjects. A number of key observations about assassins and their behaviors have emerged from the Secret Service Exceptional Case Study Project (ECSP). Targets are selected on the basis of a subject's motives, not primarily because of a subject's feelings about, or hostility toward a particular target or office. An assassination attempt is the end result of a Process of Thinking and behavior. Many attackers and near-lethal approachers move through life on a path that leads them to consider assassination of one or another prominent person of public status.

    Rationale Extensive research has been conducted on clinical reasoning to gain better understanding of this Process. Clinical reasoning has been defined as the Process of Thinking critically about the diagnosis and patient management. However, most research has focused on the Process of diagnostic reasoning. Because of the lack of understanding regarding therapeutic reasoning, education in patient management decisions lacks a solid theoretical basis. Aims and objective To improve medical education, training and refresher courses with regard to therapeutic decision making. Methods A search on the literature about clinical reasoning has been conducted. Based on this literature a hypothetical model of therapeutic reasoning is developed. Results It is assumed on the literature about diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning that after the diagnosis has been formulated, the Process of determining the therapy is initiated by a concept called the therapy script. Patient cases unconsciously elicit such scripts and they consist of relevant treatments, knowledge and clinical experiences. Analytical and non-analytical Processes determine the final choice of therapy. Subsequently, these Processes adapt the therapy script continuously. Conclusions A hypothetical model of therapeutic reasoning has been developed in order to improve medical education, training and refresher courses with regard to therapeutic decision making. Future research should empirically test the validity of this hypothetical model in different phases of the medical education continuum
