A study on the emerging packaging technologies–on the basis of the packing technique’s current situation and smart packaging development

Background/Objectives Nowadays, a protective packaging such as active packaging, various packaging techniques beyond simple packaging are emerging. Ultimately the smart packaging technique has be emerged based on new packaging techniques. Methods/Statistical Analysis The purpose of this study is to look into the history of past packaging and the present packaging techniques. And this study is going to suggest the future development method of the smart packaging based on the research of the past and present packaging techniques. Findings The most basic function of packaging is to protect a Product. In case of smart packaging, there’s a one more meaning that is indicating. In other words, smart packaging is a Product Protection by indicating status of food or something in packaging material. Some packaging methods have been often seen around us. Smart packaging is surely best available technology but it causes rise in packaging cost. Also, some electronic tag and RFID have problems such as regulations especially between countries and personal privacy. Packaging is really closed to our lives and its trends are always changing due to our life style. Meanwhile, packaging is constantly evolving. Domestic packaging industry has been growing fast enough to not even compare favorably with developed countries. However, the situation in the domestic packaging market is still following the developed countries’ techniques. Many companies which are related with packaging industries in Korea are small. Neither a foreign country. But advanced countries have really powerful association and they have many educational programs and always do focus to find new packaging market to introduce to their local practicians and consumers. We need to benchmark and try to promote our technique widly. Improvements/Applications We need to focus on a national promotion of packaging technology. Consumer doesn’t know and why they need it. It requires a creation of demand through an active promotion.

towards biological control as a major component of integrated pest management in stored Product Protection

Areas of research and implementation of biological control in stored Product Protection and advantages and limits of such an approach are analysed. Limiting factors for effective application of natural enemies are discussed and implications for human health, hygiene and authorisation are considered. Economics of biological control are discussed within the context of integrated management for stored Product Protection. Examples are chosen mainly from areas only recently gaining some attention such as retail trade and stored Product insects as material-destroying pests. If wider economic aspects, including ecological arguments, are considered, and biological control methods are fully explored, the position of biological control within integrated pest management in stored Product Protection will strengthen.

Advances in the use of pheromones for stored-Product Protection
Journal of Pest Science, 2012Co-Authors: Pasquale TrematerraAbstract:Considerable progress has been made in the monitoring and control of stored-Product pests, mainly Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, by pheromones, which are used in mass trapping, attracticide and mating disruption methods. In integrated pest management programmes of stored-Product Protection, the use of pheromones can lead to a reduction in chemical treatments, with economic advantages and the improvement of food-Product quality. In this article, I report some promising results offering efficient detection and control of stored-Product pests based on pheromones and line up a number of remaining questions to be answered to improve the reliability and competitiveness of the methods used.

A study of shock characterization for protective packaging design

LewAbstract:Cushioning buffers made of expandable polystyrene, a white polymeric granulated material, are commonly used to protect goods from damage. Current design practices tend to be simplistic and general, resulting in either overdesigned buffers or inadequate Product Protection. The objective of this paper is to identify the main parameters affecting shock absorption so that Products can be better protected. An investigative study reveals that the types of impact surfaces, material densities, geometric features, and configurations contribute significantly to the amount of shock that a Product experiences.
