  • Constructing Physically Realistic VCV Stimuli for the Perception of Stop Voicing in European Portuguese
    2012
Co-Authors: Daniel Pape, Jesus Luis M.t., Pascal Perrier
    Abstract:

In this book chapter we present the generation of physically realistic stimuli with a biomechanical speech Production model, with the aim to produce perceptually appropriate VCV sets for the European Portuguese (EP) voicing distinction. The duration measures necessary for the biomechanical model were extracted from an extensive EP speech Production Database, recorded for this aim. The same Database was used to generate realistic voicing extinction contours for the perceptual continuum. To assess the realistic accuracy of the biomechanically generated stimuli, we compared the biomechanical stimuli set to linear interpolation between articulatory targets, traditionally used for speech synthesis.

Geo-informatic tools were used to compare the classification on the basis of soil classification units with that of other soil mapping Databases (AGROTOPO, MEM NAK, land quality maps) on sampling areas in Csongrad County. The analysis of representativeness on these areas indicated that the Database contained reliable classifications at the main soil type and soil type levels (or no less reliable than for other Databases), while classification at the sub-type level was much less reliable for this data group. In addition, a comparison was made of the soil parameters most important at the main soil type level for the NPCPD taxonomical units and the corresponding taxonomical units of the Hungarian Detailed Soil Hydrophysical Database (HDSHD, MARTHA in Hungarian). In many cases the properties of the ploughed layer of soils in the NPCPD Database (upper limit of plasticity or KA, pH, humus and CaCO 3 contents) differed considerably from those in HDSHD and in other published sources in Hungary. The results confirmed previous findings suggesting that NPCPD provides valuable data on the soils of arable land in Hungary, but showed that the verification of the soil taxonomical data in the Database on the basis of comparative analysis will be required before they are routinely applied.

  • notes on the information stored in the lower levels of the hungarian soil taxonomy
Journal of Central European Agriculture, 2008
Co-Authors: Gergely Tóth, Tamas Hermann, Ferenc Máté
    Abstract:

This paper examines the information transfer of the units in the general purpose Hungarian soil classification in relation to land productivity evaluations. Statistical analyses of a national soil and plant Production Database have been applied. Results show that in some cases soil groupings, both in the general purpose taxonomy and productivity classifications, may be incorrect. Taxonomic misclassification can occur at higher levels of soil classification. Without a more specified classification of soil characteristics in the lower taxonomic units important information can be lost.
